The old pea green linoleum has been covered up, at last.
We chose to use some pine boards for this space as it was cost effective and of course, we love the warmth of wood. We will leave them raw and let them age as they wish.
I will have a large seagrass rug in here, under the bench where we'll take shoes on and off.
Mike still has the laundry room and office to do (the two small rooms off to the right) and then our old washer and dryer can be installed.
This is wonderful progress!

Beautiful! Love those floors!
ReplyDeleteIt looks as if the finishing line is in sight! Wonderful big laundry room, something we sorely lack in Europe as a general rule!
ReplyDeleteOh this is just our mudroom...The laundry room is much smaller, and off to the right. But it will be the largest laundry room I've ever had and I am looking forward to being able to hang a lot of our clothes.
DeleteExcitement building! Will there not be a finish on the floor? I assume there won't be too much water tracked in here? We are in the process of refinishing our floors, or should say finally finishing our floors, using shellac, many layers, we put a layer of hard wax on top. We have a mat and an oriental runner to catch the moisture. Holding up well with Dog and Husband.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to leave it as is, to let it age. There are several shops/bakeries in our area who have done this and it's a great look. And they appear to hold up just fine. Since they're new, we have the option of sanding them in the future, and sealing if need be. I will also have a large natural fiber rug in there so that will help catch a lot of the moisture, dirt, snow, etc.
DeleteWhen I first spied that green floor, I thought, "Oh, how retro! Maybe it's Marmoleum!" Instead, I spied the beautiful (my favorite!) pine boards, + it made more sense! Love!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the new floors! What a wonderful solution! Please be sure to show them as they age.

Much better!!!! That mudroom will get LOTS of use and those floors will look better with every "mark" of love!!! So excited for you! What a labor of love :0!
ReplyDeleteI think the floors are beautiful. Is there a certain kind of pine used for flooring? We have rooms in our home that we want to pull up old carpet in and replace with wood and I love the look of the wide pine boards.
ReplyDeleteYes it is pine specifically for floors but I don't know what kind. I'll have to ask mike!
DeleteI am falling in love with this house!

Your new wood floor is perfect. Did you have to remove the linoleum before putting down the new floor? Also, in a previous post you referred to the space with the laundry room as a workshop for Mike. Does this mean that the large room in the front of your home with the downstairs bathroom will now have another purpose other than being an office? Can't wait to see how you appoint those beautiful rooms! I'm sure all of you are beyond eager to be in your lovely historic home.
ReplyDeleteWe covered the old linoleum. And the workshop will go in the barn because it's a bigger space for projects. And yes now that the office has been relocated to the el the parlor will just be library/movie room.
ReplyDeleteAren't you tired?
ReplyDeleteEXHAUSTED!!!! Both of us are completely worn out, terribly so. It really aches, the exhaustion of it all. The only thing that keeps the morale up is - the house. The small little daydreams of doing this and doing that...I often go to sleep arranging furniture. ; ) Somehow, that has helped a great deal. Hope all is well down there!
DeleteI really like the raw wide plank pine flooring, no doubt it will be simply beautiful. I've recently started jotting down our progress as we renovate our house. Your blog is an inspiration for me!

Lovely. Would you kindly post what type of flooring you're using?
