I've always wanted to have a professionally-photographed portrait of myself. I'd want it to be a photograph that captures all that I am, all that I have been and all that I desire to be in this world, a photograph that embodies so much of me that when my closest friends and family saw it, they'd say, "Yes, that's her. That's Catherine."
There are photographs of people and then there are portraits of people. The art of capturing the essence and light of a person requires a special gift, and that gift is bequeathed to few.
I have had the honor and privilege to meet one of these artists, photographer Patrisha McLean. She sees the subtle beauties of expression within the faces of her subjects, and is able to capture them exquisitely. Her work is simply stunning.
Patrisha is one of an illustrious group of portrait photographers who are participating in a portrait session auction benefiting the Maine Media Workshops. Bids are accepted at the event and online, which is why I am mentioning it here on my blog.
