June Lilacs

The valley is filled with blooming lilacs. Our own yard has three bushes and although the blossoms have been sparse this spring, I couldn't resist clipping a small bouquet for the house. I asked Mike to clip them for me as the blossoms were too high for me to reach.

I just used a small porcelain pitcher to hold them as the vessel I usually use (which belonged to my late Grandmother) is amidst a myriad of boxes in our storage unit.

I'm always amazed how freshly cut lilacs fill the house with their fragrance. It is dreamy.

Happy lilac season to you!

  2. Lilacs are definitely one of my favorite spring flowers. I, unfortunately, missed the window of opportunity to clip some for in our home. I saw them on the bushes, and thought, "I really need to fill a vase with those," but then never did. Bummer. Yours look lovely!

  3. I grew up in a house with lilacs out in the yard. They were my mom's favorite. I tried planting a row when we first moved to our house, but a summer drought was too much for them. I can just imagine how wonderful your view is- what a delight it must be to be able to bring them into you home. They are beautiful.

  10. Lilacs are one of my favorites too. Ours bloom in April and are long gone now. I always do a big arrangement in my grandmother's amethyst glass vase. It's a yearly ritual I love.

  12. Ours have all finished now, except my dwarf Lilac bushes.

Do you have any gardens to putter around in at your rental? I'm sure you already have inspirations and plans for new gardens stored away for when you've settled in your next home.

  19. I am so happy you are enjoying them inside. For years mine were too small to cut, but now they are filling out and this year I brought some blooms inside too! I would love for you to share it at the Home Sweet Garden Party!

  21. They are beautiful! I didn't cut any from my trees this year. The blooms were sparse and it seems that the deer may have eaten some.

  24. We moved to an acreage last fall and the previous owner mentioned there was a Persian Lilac by the pond. This spring it came into bloom and the scent is out of this world.
Love your photos. Your house looks so fresh and clean.
