I love my feathery fern and so far, it loves me back. I have had other plants in its place over the past two years, but unfortunately, they didn't work out.
That is the most polite way of saying that I did them in.
Too much watering.
Too little.
There was the spider plant.
And the Boston fern.
And of course, lots of fresh cut flowers like:
Between the fresh cut flowers that always needed replacing, and the house plants that just didn't last long, it's nice to have a constant friend who asks so little, but offers such a wonderful and whimsical presence.
I don't know the botanical name of this fern, but it has happily grown three times its size since living with us.
And we're happy to have her.
Love ferns but never seen one like that
ReplyDeleteI do love these feathery air ferns. This is the perfect local...humidity and an occasional shower will do it good!

ReplyDeleteI'm yet to meet a house plant I can't kill...I'll have to try and find this one and give it a go :)
ReplyDeleteoh those are hard to grow trina. at least for me. congrats! xo
ReplyDeleteand btw, everything that you've put there looks amazing!
Lovely . . . she looks perfect in this space. Is it an "Air Fern?"

ReplyDeleteLove it! Is this an Asparagus fern? Glad you found a plant that works. :) Kit
ReplyDeleteI can't grow a fern. I always kill them. I have no luck at all.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fern. Looks like you have a Plumosa Fern. I used to be a floral designer and we'd use these all the time in arrangements and in wedding bouquets. They hold up surprisingly well! They don't last long fresh cut because they tend to shed, but looks like so far so good with it being a house plant. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Gail
I think it may be a Maiden Hair fern. It's so light and air. Looks lovely Trina
ReplyDeleteIt looks happy! I think your term, " whimsical" is perfect for it. Have a great day, Trina!
ReplyDeleteIt's an Asparagus Setaceus, I believe. It is native to Southern Africa. Brings back fond memories of my grandmother's garden in Cape Town. She had an enormous one!
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing your pictures! I hope you are having a great week!

I like your Plumosa fern-it appears to be thriving in that enviorment ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Tina, this is a lovely fern...and one I have never seen before.
ReplyDeleteI am forever having trouble with indoor plants too...good to hear someone else shares this problem. Your fern looks great there in your bathroom by your beautiful antique tub.....really love the wooden shutters in the window, Corinne
ReplyDeleteI think that i would be happy living in that bathroom too!

Good Luck with this fern. All the shots look lovely (the link to the Boston Fern goes to a front door shot with you and your family ; ) You have such a lovely eye.
ReplyDeleteI love this fern too. My mother had one for many years and we called it a lace fern because it was as soft as lace. Susan. Throughmyporchwindow.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI love the airy look to this fern, it appears to be an Asparagus Fern. I love your home......period! I want to live there........hope that didn't sound creepy:) Lol!
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect placement! I love all the little plants you've put in your bathroom. Always so pretty and it's such a peaceful spot. Love it.

It's lovely Trina...so airy, it looks very happy!
ReplyDeleteI've just recently brought about the demise of several ferns...just haven't had the knack lately, maybe I'll try one of these...it delicately screams spring too.
Continued success...

I love when a good house plant decides not to kill itself under my care. Congratulations on such growth!
ReplyDeleteThat fern is a simple and lovely addition to a fabulous and fresh room! They ask so little and give so much!
ReplyDeleteYou mean houseplants aren't like goldfish -- only on this earth for a short while? Why has no one told me this before? lol. Your pictures are truly beautiful and exude a peacefulness. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteSO lovely... my plants are 'hardy,' lol!
ReplyDeleteI think it's an Emerald Fern. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI agree with those who posted that it's an asparagus fern. I have always had good luck with them. I used to have a claw foot tub at my previous home and miss it so much. When I get enough money together to remodel that will be the first thing that gets put back in. I have the old one sitting outside just waiting. (We replaced it at the previous home before we sold it...pretty smart!)
ReplyDeleteLovely post! What a fabulous blog..
ReplyDeleteI LOVE ferns and just discovered something, today, in fact: Ferns are excellent plants for absorbing humidity from the air. That being said, it's no wonder my Boston ferns look horrible! We live in So. Cal where it is so dry. Your plant looks very happy where she is. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing it's an Asparagus Fern. Pretty sure it's not a Maidenhair and I'm not familiar with the others that have been mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved looking at the various plants that you put in this spot. The plant stand is a lovely way to display them.

My plants don't "work out," either, except for potted orchids, which do grow for me, even though you'd think those would be the hardest of all. She is indeed very delicate and beautiful, and the view of the mountain from your house is just incredible, too. WOW.
ReplyDeleteTake good care, Em
It's Asparagus Farm I have one for more than 24 year I love them for decoration.
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely Trina!

ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful blog!
ReplyDeleteI do not have a green thumb...I have a tendency to over water.
But I agree Great Friends are Awesome!
I'm thinking asparagus fern as well...
ReplyDelete: )
You killed a spider plant? That's some bad luck!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could tell you what kind of fern it is, I can tell you it's none of the ones listed above.
It is a plumosa fern...they are raised for wholesale purposes all around our house in Florida. The greenhouses are Humongous!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room...I wish I had half that much space :^)
Blessings,
J
