New Drinking Glasses

When we were at the coast last weekend, we stopped in at an antique store (this wasn't by accident, I wrote the address down so we'd be sure to find it). It was my favorite kind of antique store with lots of booths by different dealers. I find that these stores (known as antique malls) often have, by far, the best prices and the best variety to choose from.

I wasn't disappointed as I found these glass drinking glasses. They were priced at $20 for eight of them. I knew this was a good deal because I had purchased the exact same glasses several years ago - except I paid $15 for just four.

Finding them was perfect timing because recently I decided to get rid of our old drinking glasses. They were glasses from Martha Stewart's line at K-Mart, so they were pretty (and of course cheap). But I liked them, I didn't love them (sorry Martha, you know I adore you)... so why keep using them?

The vintage glasses I love. And if I love them, then why not use them every single day? Well, I know the answer to that because I have a tendency to save the things I love most for 'special occasions.'

But then you go years not using something that you love. So I decided to break from that bad habit and, that's right, make everyday a special ocassion. Sounds corny but drinking water from these glasses would seriously offer me more warm fuzzies than drinking from the safe, I only like you, not love you glasses.

And besides, I had to ask myself, what's the worst thing that could happen? They break. But there are other beautiful glasses out there...so the worst thing would that I'd have to replace them with some other beautiful glasses.

Okay I admit, the fact that I now have twelve of them, makes this a whole lot easier. I have nine up on the shelf and three down in the cupboard - for safe keeping. ; )

  5. Trina, What a great find for a great price. My Grandmother had the exact pressed glass stemware set in her china closet. I remember admiring them as a child. Thank you for bringing back that wonderful memory. All the best, Lori

  7. They are lovely ~ what a fabulous find!

I've found that drinking out of a stemed glass makes any taste wonderful. I too am working up my courage to bring all my "special" items out and use them more often. They aren't doing any good wrapped and in box.

  13. I abide by "life is short- use your good things everyday" rule.... so good for you! Your glasses are very pretty!

Can't tell you how many times we've seen/purchased something at an estate sale and thought "that person NEVER used it- was probably saving it for a special occasion."
Lesson learned!! When they come to "my";) estate sale I want people to say "wow, she really used all her things!"

  14. Hi,
I have these same glasses... I have had them for about 10 years.. I kept them up for a long time, but like you, decided to use what I have instead of just looking at them.. we use them everyday.. I call them my juice glasses.. I recently found a great deal on the matching berry bowls.. 12 for $10.00.. I love them..
Hope you enjoy yours. I absolutely love mine.

  19. Hello D. Murphy! All white dishes, including tea cups and saucers, on our kitchen shelves are from the Martha Stewart line at Macy's department store. And they're having an amazing sale on them right now - online only I think. We love ours! Trina

  24. Oh, I love those glasses. I grew up drinking out of some just like them. I don't know how many were in the set my mother had, but by the time I was grown she was down to only one. Iced tea was the best in that glass!

  26. Beautiful glasses Trina! The shelves look wonderful. Being a cup and saucer for my tea girl, I must get my grandmother's tea cups out and use them. I've always been too scared something will happen to them..bit silly, isn't it? Rachaelx

  34. No wonder I like you and your farmhouse. I find antiques, and thrift shop finds so much more special than that of the great chain counterparts. There is something special about having a sip from a special glass.
    I posted your door today.

  38. I grew up with glasses very similar to your "new" antiques. I loved them. As I recall, the glasses we had came with jam, jelly or peanut butter in them. That was a BIG incentive to buy that particular brand.

I love your attitude--making every day a special one. You are going to have a very happy life!
