Spring Cozies

Thank you for all of your kind, supportive words. I've forgotten how wonderful it feels to share such warm, positive energy with dear friends across this beautiful world of ours. It really is quite heart warming and so very inspiring. Thank you.

Since I am still without my computer, perhaps I will begin Instagram, using the blog for more in-depth postings. I'm just giving you fair warning that things are not tip top shape here. I don't have the wherewithal as I once did to keep things just so. As long as you don't mind, I shall enjoy the incentive to start tackling some projects once again. We sort of collapsed in exhaustion after we moved in, but with the temperatures warming and the windows being opened for fresh air, I am feeling eager to get to work again.

The above photo is our family hearth (taken with my iPhone). We absolutely love having fires. It adds such coziness to the room and to any occasion, especially the everyday occasions.

Does anyone remember this? This is what the hearth looked like when we first saw the house.

  2. So happy to see your post! I will gladly follow you on Instagram and will look forward to an occasional post on your blog. Finding the wherewithall to keep things "just so" with two little children is a challenge. I enjoy real-life posts, and find inspiration in your renovation projects. Thank you for continuing to share.

  15. I am taking ideas from your home...I have a Federal frame that used to have a family portrait in it (an old dated picture), but I'm changing it out to a mirror. Thank you for sharing with us in this space.

  16. Well hello again! Happy to see your beautiful fireplace adorned with pretties and cozy fire. My husband has a fire in the fireplace nearly every morning...it was 85 yesterday yet our family room fireplace was crackling and glowing again this morning.
I really love seeing snippets of your home and the "before" photos as well.
See you on Instagram! Cyber hugs.

  18. Love the face lift on fireplace. I love a fire too, I never like looking at what I call " the place whole". Last year I bought a wonderful fireplace cover with a sailing ship. I think fire season here in RI is over so out comes the ship! So glad to have you back. I will follow on IG.

  19. I can't begin to express how happy I am to find this in my email! Instagram will be wonderful because I just love seeing what you do. And please please please include the before pictures. It is incredibly helpful to see you take a space and turn it into something so tasteful. I don't have that knack so it's quite helpful. I enjoy your posts so much but realize they do take time and energy. Whenever you can post, I will be excited! Fireplace looks amazing! When I saw this picture I remembered in a flash the guys ripping the fireplaces apart. Transformation is an insufficient understatement!

  24. Oh, Catherine! How wonderful to find new postings (I don't "do" instagram). Not only have I missed your eloquent, descriptive writings, your decorating ideas, and your common sense approach to home and family but I have also been concerned that something was amiss with one of the twins or Mike. I am very comforted to know all is well, that it was 'life' that postponed your posts. Very understandable! I too took the election hard and am also making my concerns known. God be with you on this task. Thanks for reappearing in my world. You've been missed!

  27. I have checked so many times to see if you were back yet, I am happy to see you posting, even if it is sporadic. I use your photos for inspiration in my homes, I move so often it seems lately, that inspiration is necessary ! Plus there is a serenity in your photos that is soothing and comforting ...

  30. I love your style! I have a question for you... on your old home in Oregon.. was your lovely picket fence wood or vinyl? I'm shopping for a front fence and having a tough time!

    1. Wood! And we weren't there long enough to have to re-paint. We did however use a stain that looks like paint and it was supposed to fade over time, rather than chip off like paint.
      Good luck!

  31. I am so happy that you are back and so excited to see more of your new house! While you have the most refined and curated style that is enviable, I hope that you know how many of us just want to see the magic that you have worked on this old house. Your furnishings and personal decor will come with time but it seems that the bones of your house have been brought back to life and many people will be happy to see them, no matter how bare. Thank you so much for continuing to share your house and bits of your life online, it is a joy to see!

  32. It warms my heart to see you again! Your post before this one that touched on the importance of kindness & humanity spoke to exactly how I'm feeling these days, post-election. Enjoy your new-old home & making it yours with your sweet family!
PS. About 6 years you kindly responded (as a busy mama!!) to my email about your organic crib mattress source & I was so grateful for your advice! Thank you, it served our little girl well!
