Easter Light

It was such a glorious day yesterday. We spent the last few hours of the day running around in the warm, late afternoon sun, and taking a few pictures of our familiar scenes.

These trees by the guest house are where we hang the hammock. The ground beneath is carpeted with a wonderful clover ground cover - it's just an oasis of soft delicate sprouts under your feet.

Which reminds me...I still need to do a post on the guest house exterior.

Mt. Adams in Washington state.

The mountains on the horizon are also in Washington state.

Our beloved fence.

I commented to Mike that sometimes the mountain reminds me of a renaissance portrait, whose eyes are with you wherever you are in the room. According to Native American legend, Pahto (Mt. Adams) and Wy'east (Mt. Hood) were sons of the Great Spirit. They competed for the love of the beautiful La-wa-la-clough (Mt. St. Helens). As the legend goes, Pahto became very sad when La-wa-la-clough went away. So maybe my sense of the Mountain's eyes are Pahto watching out for the return of his lovely maiden.

Dusk.
The mountain is always the last to see the light at the end of the day.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter.

  5. Dying to know.....where will you be relocating? How are you feeling about starting over? Will you try to get another house like the one you are leaving?! Have you bought yet? When are you leaving?

    So many questions.....,

Hope you don't think I am prying , just wondering!

Moving s always hardest on the wife and Mom. Breathe!

  10. Beautiful photos Trina. I am behind on my blog reading and was sad to see you will be moving from your beloved home. It is such a heavenly place. But it sounds like Mike is a man of great talent and I can understand the need to make the right decisions for one's career. I hope you and up in a wonderful place and I know you will make another perfect home there. Is it California? Oh well, anywhere in the USA sounds lovely - it's a great country.

  14. Your photos are always beautiful. The view! The house! Both idyllic. I am already thinking about how someone new will love this place of yours.

So yes, please tell us! Where are you going?

  15. Seems the weather in OR was amazing in most of the state this past week-we had temps of 70 degrees! We went to brunch and watched the kayak races on the Deschutes.

Lots of memories in your house-embrace them all :)

  16. WOW such gorgeous shots!! They took my breath away & I just wanted to run to the nearest "countryside" I could! How amazing to see that every day!!

  17. Those views are stunning. What I wouldn't do to walk out my door and have views like that.
My husband is from Washington and always talks about how beauty the mountains are. He always comments how flat Nebraska is.

I was surprised at your announcement about relocating. I do hope you continue to blog and take us along on that journey with you. xo

  20. Hi Trina,

What an amazing view. It looks similar to Views we have in Calgary Alberta Canada. I love the mountains, and would much rather have a view of them then a downtown skyline any day.

  21. How in the world will you be able to say goodbye to such an incredible view?

Best wishes for a wonderful view from your next home as well!

  22. Beautiful scenery - in the distance and on your property. You have such a gift for composition and color. Your photos are arranged like paintings, with lovely attention to cropping, shapes and light. The shot of your porch at an angle with your green door reflecting across the planks is so beautiful. It's a painting waiting to happen.

  23. Just love your house and blog and the little ones too. I told my husband about your moving and the beautiful pictures of your home, I said 'if we were not so close to retiring and we didn't want a lot of work to do, I would love that kind of home.'
He smiled. He knew he would also.

  25. Beautiful and poignant photos and legend. I'm so glad you have shared it with us. I'm one of those who wish they could be the lucky person who buys your house. But you have put so much of yourselves into this home that I don't think it can ever be quite the same for the next owner. I'm not quite ready to look forward to your new home, but I'm glad you're going to bring us along.

  26. Amazingly beautiful shots. I can only dream of someday living in such a picturesque place. Your heart must be so heavy to leave. But, of course, being closer to family will lighten your heart once you relocate. Best of luck to you. Julie

  27. Oh how lucky the person that buys your beloved home will be to enjoy all of the goodness it holds. I will miss these posts about your home but look forward to the new :-)

  28. Oh Wow! Such beautiful photos. I come to your blog sometimes a few times a week only to remind myself that you don't blog your beautiful home and life for me, but for yourself and you share glimpses with me and others who don't know you. And I go a week or so and all of the sudden there are three!!! posts!!! with huge news! Oh I will miss your photos b/c I grew up north of Spokane and traveled many times along the river to Portland and Seaside to visit family. As a transplant to the Midwest, I crave shots of the gorgeous Northwest and you have such talent that I am satiated when I stop by. But again, it isn't about me. I look forward to seeing the beauty of your next place as have come to understand their is a beauty in any terrain/environment...but as I read in a book once, "The landscape of one's youth stirs the soul like no other." Too true. Best wishes for your family!

  29. Don't forget to write that post on the guest house exterior! Also I am curious about how you raised the roof for the upstairs bedroom addition. In roaming through your blog, I didn't see a post about it.
    Thanks!

  32. Happy Easter to you and your family too!

My sister hosted 28 for a sit-down dinner, everyone contributed, it was a wonderful family day! Oh, there were only 2 non-relatives!

  33. Can't get your future move out of my mind. After leaving a home we had lived in and made exactly what we wanted over 22 years, I know how hard this upcoming move will be for your family. Not only will it be physically taxing, but hard on the heart and soul also. May God lead you to greener pastures and exciting adventures for you, Mike and those precious toddlers. Please continue your writing -- you have an amazing talent.

  34. I know you will cherish each remaining moment you have in your home as well as cherish the memories this beautiful house has given you. Wishing you God's blessings as you begin a new chapter in your life.

  35. What a great line about the Renaissance portrait. WOW.

    That rose print is beautiful!

Looking forward to seeing the guest house exterior photos.

I bought an enormous bunch of daffodils before Easter, still in bud. They didn't have the staying power I'd expected, opening up in one day, so I'd buy them the day before, next time, but they held together. (I think they open in response to light, so I thought of keeping them in the guest bathroom with the door closed until Sunday, but that was not the point...)

    Take good care, Em
