Thank You

(Video by Michael Peterson)

Your sentiments, well wishes and kindness have been so incredibly heartwarming. As we embark on our new journey, it is a great comfort to leave a place that was well loved and appreciated by people beyond our own family and friends.

Looking through the photographs, I am reminded of how much of ourselves that we put into restoring this property. Every blooming flower, every picket on our fence, and every wall on our house has been touched by our dreams for a home to embrace us. But more than that, this house will always be the beginning of our family and for that alone it will always hold a special place in our hearts.

The like-minded souls that I’ve connected with through the blog have been such a wonderful source of support and inspiration. I originally started the blog for therapeutic reasons, to force myself to focus on the positive in life. But in the end, aside from the motivation and reinforcement it has provided to keep an eye on the beautiful and the detail, it has pushed me to acknowledge my deepest interests, and has resulted in a collection of images that I would not have committed the time to capture otherwise. And for that, and more importantly for all of the positivity that your friendship has provided, I am extraordinarily grateful.

Many of you have asked whether I’ll continue to write the blog. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I would or not. But now, I can’t imagine finding a new home, fidgeting with it to make it our own, and not sharing the experience with all of you. Your extension of support, inspiration and love of all things home is a comforting and generous companion along the way.

As you can imagine, recently we have been finishing lots of details and small projects that we never quite got to. So I have a number of posts to come soon.

With a full heart, I thank you again for your friendship and the unending kindness you’ve shown me, my family and our home.

xo

  2. How kind of you to express your gratitude, but I want to thank YOU. It probably sounds really strange but I felt like I'd be losing a friend if you had decided not to blog. I've said before that you are the first blog I ever followed and if I had to pick only one blog to keep visiting it would be this one. Even though it's across cyberspace and miles your nature and personality come across and give me such motivation to simplify and create a beautiful home, garden, appreciate the simple life and love on my family. Thank you and I can't wait to see what beauty you work on your new home.

  4. The "blog-family/friend relationship" is such a quirky thing.

I was in such a funk all day yesterday after reading your news. I kept telling myself that I "didn't know you" and that "I shouldn't care so much" but the truth is we are connected...in a very quirky way and because of that connection it is okay to care.

All I can say is "thank you" Trina and Mike, for sharing yourselves with us. You have inspired, comforted, and befriended many of us and we all wish you the very best. Looking forward to spending more time with you in the future.

One of your many blog friends,

  9. As another said, I, too, am ridiculously relieved. I look forward to hearing and seeing what the future holds for you and yours. Your blog and style are a breath of fresh air in the cluttered and over-amped style that comes from wanting all things new. I love that you use your family's furniture and can't wait to see how you use it again. Blessings and safe travel!

  11. Beyond the simple yet elegant style you have injected into your house, the video depicts the love that made it a home. A new home filled with dreams waits for your family to fill with love.
    Enjoy that journey.

  12. Beautiful Trina . . . you have such a beautiful way of saying all the right things. Gracious, tender and gentle.

I loved the video . . . it left me a bit weepy as I was remembering a time in my life when I left a favorite home several years ago . . .

A happy time indeed as we moved on to new horizons and opportunities . . . although realizing we were leaving part of our heart and soul behind. Memory and photo treasures for us . . . as this will be for you, I am sure . . .

  13. Trina, your blog continues to be an absolute delight to me, and I really appreciate that you take the time to share with us. I don't just mean the house and the garden, either, although those are exquisite ... I mean thank you for sharing your HOME with us, which, happily, you will take with you to your next place. :) Best wishes!

  14. Trina,

I have read for yours and commented her and there over the years. I love homes and we have poured our selves and our souls into a few (even designing and building one --before blogging). It will be so hard to leave a happy place where you started your married life and brought your babies home. but the love and the memories will move with you. The video is perfect and you will cherish it as time goes by. It will be so lovely to share with the twins when they are older. I know that your new home will be special too because your bring your "specialness " with you!!!!

    Best,
    Kim

  16. Aw, I'm so sad! Your house is GORGEOUS and, while I'm sure you can recreate with your style in another home, it just has so much of the elements I'm looking for in my forever home. *I* couldn't say goodbye! Your new opportunity must be amazing!

  30. This is the second time that reading a blog post has brought tears to my eyes. The first time was when you told us you were pregnant. I think it was the first comment I wrote on your blog and here we are now, the second.

I think what is wonderful about your blog is not only watching a house get transformed by two very talented people but also seeing, through your photos, the love and warmth that has turned that house into a home. My mother has one of those tacky little signs posted in her kitchen that reads " A house is made of bricks but a home is made of love." Tacky sign, true words.

I can't deny that I am sad to see you leave something you have both poured so much love and work into. But life is like that...lots of curves along the way. Lucky are the people who will occupy it next. I have also had to leave places that I fixed and adored and the only thing that helped was knowing that everything I loved and collected throughout my life was coming along with me.

You are now blessed with not one, but two beautiful and healthy babies and a handsome and wonderful husband. Keep him close. Guys like that are hard to come by.

Lots of love and best wishes on your new journey. I look forward to a new adventure and a new house.

  34. Trina,
Once again you have captured the hearts of so many with this poignant video and post. I know I speak for all of us, your followers, your friends, your admirers when I say that your post has provided us with a glimpse inside a family. That glimpse has inspired us, changed us and moved us. Whether it was watching Mike create a patio out of stone or your instructions on how to find the exact frame, a recipe or a step by step tutorial on how to create a fireplace and mantle. Each post, each photo and insight touched and affected the hearts of many making us all want to do more, create more, and I speak for myself when I say, made us want to copy so many of your designs and ideas. A white wall took on a new meaning for so many of us after watching you post about your projects each week. And when the babies came, we all rejoiced and watched as they grew week by week before our very eyes. And the nucleus of it all, the thread that was the backdrop to all your projects, experiences and adventures, was your country farmhouse. That beautiful structure that was your sanctuary for seven years. The place where you freely opened it's doors to let us, the viewers in to see the beauty and the love the resonated within. And with life's journey comes always, change. Change, although bittersweet at times can be wonderful as well. I know that where ever you and Mike and the kids go there will be beauty and joy and love because that's who you are and what you have enabled us to see through the portal of your blog. We are so happy for you and the excitement to come in your journey. I know your home will continue to bless those that come after because of the love that dwells within its walls that you so graciously built. We shall miss your home but look forward to your future posts and
following your new journey as a family. We are so happy for you.
    xoxo Much Love

  37. Wow! I was happy to see any new post, but this is big news. I was stunned, but then I thought, they created this, so they can create something even better. New rooms! I kind of assume you'd be moving to a house, but who knows, maybe you'll be city slickers. Anything could happen! Congratulations to Mike on what must be a really great opportunity. Best of luck! And please, please keep blogging.

  40. PS If it doesn't seem too pathetic to beg, since you mentioned that you'll have more posts to come as you finish those projects, could you please space them out? I'd rather see the same handful of posts (or thousands, whatever you have time for..) spaced out, than all at once, and then crickets chirping for many sad, oh, so very sad, months. I know you have to do whatever works for your family, and I don't blog, so maybe that's too hard to do during the process, in which case, forget I said anything, because I'm sure moving with twins is no joke, but I can ask, right? ;)

    Take care, Em

  74. In a hundred years, I would have never guessed that a home renovation blog would one day make me break down and sob my eyes out. My heart aches at the idea that you might leave us. I miss you already, and it hurts, though of course, we've never met. My heart aches at the idea of you leaving your amazing, beloved home. I want to hope that you will stay with us and continue blogging. I want to believe that you are excited and happy about the move ahead.

Like everyone else, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Yes, your blog (your house) is unparalleled in beauty, elegance, helpfulness, inspiration. But we all love you so much because it is so much more than that; it is love of family, love of tradition, love of home. Best of all, it is a place of deep gratitude for the miracles of God's creation, from hydrangeas to berries to babies.

Still weeping, wishing you, Mike and your children all the happiness in the world, all God's continued blessings,

Yay! We get to come too!

  76. Trina,

I recently found your blog and fell in love with your house. I never knew of your fertility issues and reading back in the blog about your struggles and ultimate success is so inspirational. I'm also struggling with this and today has been one of those very sad days for me. I am dreaming of sweet babies like yours and I'm so, so happy you have them. Thank you for sharing your life with us and I'll definitely be following your next steps.

  78. I can imagine how difficult it must be to leave a home you have renovated and loved for so many years, the house where you became a family. Your house is awesome and the view -to die for! But I guess a less impressive view will do as long as you get to share it with your loved ones.

  79. Bless you and yours. I have just read all your blog archives after finding you the other day when you were writing your goodbyes! I have enjoyed immensely your house story and was thrilled to learn of the twins safe arrival. Honestly they are so gorgeous I could gobbe them up! Here in North Devon,UK, things can be so different, yet strangely just the same. Many of your favourite plants, I also have, familiar plates adorn your shelves. I have far more dust than you though. I very much look forward to reading about your future in hopefully the not too distance. Good luck,

  80. Trina, just seeing this now and trying to absorb it all. I know how much of your heart, soul, spirit, and sweat went into the creation of this unbelievably special 'home', and also into the creation of the beautiful family that has occupied it, and I just want to thank you for sharing the amazing journey with us. Your generous and honest posts (and emails) gave us so much hope, inspiration, and tremendous help for our similar journey...I can't thank you enough for all you've given and shared, and wish you, Mike, and your sweet babies every blessing, and no *of courses*, in this next wonderful chapter. ♥

  82. Oh no, Trina! I have followed your blog from the very beginning and lately I don't have as much time to keep up, so when I opened the blog tonight and saw this post, it made me so sad. Even though change is good, and you will be near family, it is always hard to leave a home that you have put so much love into. I wish you and your family all the luck in the world in your new venture.
(Now I want to move to Oregon and buy your house - it would make life easier since our sons live in Oregon!)
All I can say is that whomever buys your beautiful home is one very lucky person!
