'Tis the Season

The house is filled with flowers, cedar clippings, and a Christmas tree not yet decorated.

I draped cedar clippings around the chandelier. I love the contrast between the organic and the crystal.

I just love this time of year.

White poinsettias are always a favorite of mine. I could fill the entire house with them but I only put them up high and out of reach of little arms.

These are clippings from a broken plant that toppled over. The cuttings last wonderfully long.

I always start out with more elaborate plans for the mantle, but in the end left it sparse as usual. I just love the simplicity of evergreens all on their own.

I made the little wreaths using some floral wire. I saw this in a magazine years ago and I'm just  getting around to doing it this Christmas.

I didn't get a chance to force paper whites or amaryllis this year.  Perhaps for the New Year? They go on sale soon after Christmas, so perhaps I'll indulge then.

The little cedar wreaths make the familiar so much more festive.

The tree is standing with lots of lights (and hopefully freshly watered...why do I always think of checking the water late at night?), but not yet decorated.

We'll see if we get to that before Christmas!

We are finding enough time to eat lots of festive foods however. Mike made a pumpkin pie from the garden pumpkins and then there's those Christmas cookies... I just bought some fresh organic apple cider with some mulling spices, and hope that a warm cup of that is going to replace all desire for Christmas sweets.

I'll let you know how that goes.

Happy holiday season to you and yours.

xo

  8. Trina, your decorations are simple and beautiful, as always. I just bought an amaryllis bulb, on sale for $4.99. I know it won't bloom by Christmas, but that's fine with me. A gorgeous red flower is welcome in this house any time of year. Enjoy the season and Merry Christmas to you and your family,

  9. Everything looks beautiful with the fresh greenery, but I particularly love the cedar on the chandelier. I think you are right not to decorate with anything else... the natural elements look gorgeous on their own against the bright white.

  13. I love the cedar Trina. How sweet and romantic it looks against the white. My cedar dies with the heat of the house. I've tried it but it will only last for 2 or 3 days. So sad.
I love the way the chandelier looks. Your home is so sweet and beautiful and I love the way you decorated. Can't wait to see your tree.
    So lovely, as always.

  20. Looks beautiful!! How did you hang the wreath over your mirror?

  21. Always a treat and inspiration to see your beautiful home!

  22. I hang the wreath using twine. You can loop it under the nail behind the mirror or just hang the twine from the heaviest part of the topper (I did that this time).

The greenery gets crisper as the days pass. It's made me think of buying faux greenery in the future but it's just not the same. It will have to come down soon after Christmas but perhaps that's for the better as it makes you enjoy it all the more.

  29. Your house always looks so clean and uncluttered. Mine, on the other hand, is quite a mess, just like me! I do appreciate simplicity, but can never seem to achieve it for myself. Perhaps, that is why your lovely farmhouse is so appealing to me. Blessings on you and yours this Christmas!
