Our cool rainy weekend prompted me to clip a bouquet of fall hydrangeas. I call them 'fall' hydrangeas because by this time of year their white and cream summer hues have aged into vibrant pink and fuscia.
Their color turns before the leaves of the deciduous trees, so they provide the first glimpse of the landscape bidding farewell to summer and embracing the crisp cool air of autumn.
This is the season in which I feel the least guilty making bouquets of hydrangeas for the house. All summer long I watch them grow and blossom, but can't seem to find the nerve to make bouquets without guilt. This time of year I know that they're winding down and may enjoy the comfort of a warm house.
I often tell Hubby to compose photos so that my face isn't in the picture. This is due to simple shyness (something I don't tolerate with Hubby obviously). As you can see, I'm in my usual country bumpkin attire...warm sweater, jeans and one of my last maternity shirts that still fits!

ReplyDeleteA wonderful problem to have - that whole growing out of maternity shirts. : ) Bless you and the baby. Loving those hydrangeas. Just planted a blue variety and hope they come back next year. I have no experience with them but I adore those big pom pom ball blooms.

ReplyDeleteThe flowers are lovely this time of year. I love the faded color of even the bright pink.In this part of the country they bloom in shades of blue. I am told it's the soil.

ReplyDeleteI am the same way with fall blooms. I am hesitant to cut them during the summer, but when I know that my flowers are going to quit blooming soon, I have a no problem clipping them.

But you look simply beautiful and your children will love looking back and seeing mommy when she was pregnant with them! Don't you just love the fact that some of your maternity clothes don't fit anymore...it means you're close to being able to hold those babies in your arms...scary and exciting all at the same time!

My oakleaf hydrangea looks similar but ours haven't turned pink yet---we're in a warmer climate, maybe that's the reason.

ReplyDeleteI understand that feeling, I grow flowers for a purpose and then I would feel bad cutting it since my plant friends have worked so hard for it! But it also ends up as cuttings and indoors when it's a little past it's prime.

I have the same problem clipping my Hydrangea's. All summer long I can bearly stand it.
