Treasures

During our antique outing with Joan, we found two treasures. This painting was something we found at the very last antique shop we visited and both Joan and I were puzzled as to why it was priced so very low.

It's quite large, measuring 35 inches wide by 25 inches tall. The oil painting is on canvas and seems to be in its original frame. The artwork is signed F. Weber, which I have not looked into a great deal, but who appears to be a New York artist from the early 1900's.

But it will always be referred to as our Joan painting for I will always think of her when I look at it.

This is the other treasure we brought home with us.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Finding a treasure when least expecting seems to make it more of a TREASURE . . .
    Beautiful oil on canvas . . .
And nice railroad crossing piece . . .

I felt that way in my photo outing today . . .
    I didn't know or even expect anything, I was just looking . . .
Such a surprise to look at my photos . . . I love each misty cloudy look . . .
    A "treasure" kind of day . . .

  2. I am sure that railroad crossing treasure has to be in the hands of one of your sweet dumplings. I cannot believe how grown. How old are the children now? I remember when you were pregnant and it seems like yesterday. I love the painting. Sea paintings are a favorite of mine. Seems to have been a great outing in many ways.

  3. I love the painting, but wow the railroad crossing treasure would be a hit for my grandson, I'm betting he loves trains. Are you close to moving in? Hope Spring is reaching you all.

You may have ended up with more then a treasure, but a piece worth a mint ?
The rail road crossing is a gem of a piece with all the railroad collectors. I think you hit a gold mine!

  7. Two fabulous treasures, one a hit with children, the other with adults! I love the painting and the frame is fantastic, someone obviously once cared for it a great deal. I love that nowadays it's fashionable to enjoy Brocante and second hand treasures, to give things a new lease of life. Have a lovely weekend, Susan x

  8. Are you saving the railroad crossing or letting the kids play with it? I would probably put it up for safety. Do you have any idea how old it is? It looks old.

    1. My dad gave my son some antique railroad cars and engine, which we take out and play gently with from time to time. The railroad crossing is an addition to that collection, which we hope to get up and running someday, when everyone is a little bit older.

  9. Love your finds! I have my grandmother's collection of old oil landscape paintings in ornate frames- they are priceless to me. I often sit and stare, wondering about the artist, the scene, the thoughts behind the painting.

I absolutely cannot wait to see how you decorate your new home. It looks like a lot of space and I am curios how you will fill it. Also curious- what did Joan find??!!

    1. Joan saw many treasures but none that had to come home with her.

    1. It is the same artist indeed! Thank you for sending. Mine was a fraction of the cost (less than $300) so it appears that I made a good purchase!
