BEFORE
This photograph shows the family room mantle before we purchased the house, when renters were still living there.
The mantle had a boxy, unrefined look about it. After they refined the mantles upstairs in the main house, we thought we'd ask Nate and Darryn for their help in making similar upgrades to this one (which is located in the el of the house).
Once again, they created something quite extraordinary!
AFTER
The result is a much more refined and historical mantle, and I love it so much.
It is so beautiful - thank you Darryn and Nate!
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing your journey of restoration on your lovely home. I enjoy every post.
ReplyDeleteIt's all looking absolutely wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, what is an el? I haven't heard of one before
An el is the part of the house that extends from the main house. Ours is quite long, which is common for older homes. They were typically added on over the years after the main house was built.

ReplyDeleteThank you for showing this, such a subtle change that has had a huge impact, I agree it looks so much better, I still love the clean and simple lines. Beautiful renovation.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a small change that has such big impact! The effort you and your craftsmen are putting into this restoration is absolutely heart wrenching.
ReplyDeleteYou saved this house.
Best,
Tim
It looks lovely. I cannot imagine how much all this is costing you. Details aren't cheap, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteInspiration! Although my home is a Saltbox reproduction, I have two Rumford fireplaces that are crying out for a makeover. They have some of the features of the 'after' picture and I was wondering how to 'gussy' it up.. Thanks to you and your craftsmen I now know what needs to be done.
ReplyDelete...Beautiful change! I love all of the attention to detail that you are placing into this home. :o)
ReplyDelete...And I would've had to straighten that candle before taking a photo. Whether it's my candle or not. lol... Terrible, I know. ;o)
...Have a lovely weekend and thank you for sharing your journey!
...Peace & blessings. :o)
Wow, it went from almost modern to Historical.
ReplyDeleteJust perfect! So elegant indeed. I can't wait for you to move in and decorate!
ReplyDeleteI think you're going to have to make some space in your home for Nate and Darryn. They worked on the house so much they're almost like family now, lol.
Beauty in the most simplistic of change. Yet adding all the rightness to its new refine change.
