I have to admit that I was a bit taken aback by this sight. Mike said that the plumber needed to get into some walls and so he (Mike) would be starting to demo the upstairs bathroom over the weekend- this is part way through that task.
There's the new (old) window that we uncovered.
We will be re-arranging a few things, sink and bathtub switching places (approximately).
The loo is the only thing that will remain the same, although facing a different direction.
To the left of the door (black plastic), we are putting in a shower. We hemmed and hawed about this and in the end, decided that we needed the shower separate from the bathtub.
The shower is actually going to be in the linen closet, a compromise for sure but we decided that having a shower on its own was going to be far more useful.
Lots to do...
Thanks for the update. I hate how sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. It's going to be beautiful! linda r (phila burbs)
ReplyDeleteWell, the joy of this is that when it's done, it's properly done and no re-demolishing or -building needs to be done for ages. Love the old window! Sending lots of energy and good renovation humour your way.
ReplyDeleteoh wow does this ever bring back memories for me! press on!
ReplyDeleteIn my experience with our farmhouse, things ALWAYS get worse before they get better! Keep your eye on the end of the tunnel, it will turn out great :)
ReplyDeleteI see the light of hope shining through the newly uncovered window! It's going to be gorgeous when it's done :) In the meantime, don't forget to have a cup of tea and relax xx
ReplyDeleteBeen there, Catherine. You're lucky to be living away from the mess (we actually lived in the house while renovating). It will all be worth it though, trust me :)
ReplyDeleteThe reno motto - it has to get ugly before it gets pretty. Pretty is on the way.
ReplyDeleteI put in just a clawfoot and wish I had a shower now!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I just know the end result will be well worth all of this. xo
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're going to need some insulation. This is what we use in our Maine cottage and it is toasty warm, Roxul Stone Wool Insulation Batts.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI think you are going to love the separate tub/shower. A master bath is such a personal space. It will be beautiful when it is finished!
ReplyDeleteI had to smile when I saw the first picture, it is a scene that has repeated itself many times in our old cape. We decided to split out our tub and shower as well, to make the main, and only, bathroom up feel more luxurious. A bit of an indulgence in a little old house. Love the blog name you have for your new old home. Patty/NS
ReplyDeleteIt will be SOOOO worth it when you can enjoy the beautiful new bathroom!!
ReplyDeleteI think you made the right choice to have a separate shower, plus this gives you the opportunity to be creative and come up with something pretty for towel storage in the bath. Having all that light from the windows will be nice too.
ReplyDeleteI wonder does the exterior walls have insulation already or is this something you are having to add too?
