Blue Eggs

'Tis the season to celebrate the egg! I asked Mike to pick up some blue eggs at our local co-op on his way home and he gave me a quizzical look.

"I've never heard of blue eggs," he said.

"What? Have you never read a Martha Stewart magazine in your entire life?" was my response.

Many, many years ago I read a feature that Martha Stewart did on beautiful blue eggs and the Araucana chickens who lay them. I was in awe. So in the years following, whenever I've come across blue eggs, they always bring me pause.

Beautiful.

This carton of eggs varied in color. You can see from this image that they came in shades of light green, yellow, blue, and of course, some white.

Beautiful.

Happy Easter to you dear friends!

  3. I remember reading about blue eggs in a Martha Stewart magazine as well. One day, when we are no longer living an itinerant lifestyle, I am buying those chickens so I can have blue eggs!!

  4. I used to have auracuna hens and the eggs were always fun. Perfect for Easter because they are already colored! Have a lovely Easter.

  5. I have a small shed in our back yard that would be ideal for keeping chickens, I just don't feel ready to embark on that adventure just yet. If I ever did, I would love a few Araucana birds. The eggs are such lovely shades.

  7. Tell Mike I said he and Rob are so out of the loop. Hee hee. I had that magazine issue all about the eggs and then she had pages of stunning photographs and I actually ripped them out and framed them a few years ago and had them in a set of four in gold frames in my bathroom. The different shades of blue. I love blue eggs. So pretty!

  8. This post is sadly incomplete without a picture of your cute husband giving you the quizzical look, but beautiful eggs.

    Happy Easter!

  10. Those blue eggs are lovely in subtle hues of blues and greens. I think it's our responsibility to educate our spouse anything design, if he/she has no idea about it :) I have a long way to go with my husband :)

  11. I still haven't placed my order for chicks yet so now, I'm scratching some from the list and adding some Araucana's! Love those natural hued eggs!

  12. How pretty...I wish we had access to blue eggs, especially this time of year. I guess I'll have to continue to dye our eggs that subtle robin egg blue.
Happy Easter, a day late, to you and your family.

  14. We have a variety of different layers here on my farm in North Georgia and I absolutely love the blue eggs from the Arucanas. I also love the speckled and dark eggs from Welsummers and Copper Marans. There's nothing like having a basket of multicolored eggs sitting out on the counter. :)
