Last Fall, while discussing the details over the feature on our guest house, I was asked to join Country Living magazine as a contributing editor.
This was of course a complete surprise, and I was sure I was being mistaken for someone else.
When I told Mike this news, he responded with lots of congratulations, and then asked, "what does a contributing editor do?"
I said that I didn't know exactly, but it sounded very important!
Needless to say, I was quite honored to be asked as I've been a passionate Country Living reader for many years.
So far, I've been helping to develop story ideas and to find beautiful homes to feature on the pages of the magazine. It has been a great experience. I am continually reminded of the passion and spirit that so many people invest to make their homes and livelihoods truly beautiful and special, and also how their lives are enriched by the beauty that they create.
There are so many wonderful details that fashion those warm and loving spaces. And that's ultimately what its all about isn't it -
to endear those spaces so that we and our loved ones feel embraced by the homes that hold us?
I look forward to sharing my experiences through this new endeavor!

ReplyDeleteCongrats me and my wife have been subscribers for years !!! I think countryliving is not a magazine but a way o life ! I've too my wife on several occasions that you should be some sort of editor in countryliving ! The magazine should be honored to have you on there team ! Keeps us updated kinda like a sneak peek of what u do as a contributing editor should be interesting ! Congrats from N.C
Wow. Congrats! That is wonderful. I don't know you, but I do know you're perfect for this opportunity. Best wishes! Linda R. (Phila burbs)
ReplyDeleteSo exciting Trina,
ReplyDeleteI think that position fits you perfectly. You are an example of beauty style and grace while keeping things simple and clean and natural and that's what the magazine is all about. I can't think of a better more beautiful person to seek out beauty in charm in homes across the country.
xoxo
Lisa
Congratulations, I love how you have put your home together with items from past (main bedroom bed, love the story) and present (ie afforable items from Target and not some far out reach designer items) so it wonderful they have selected you. Your home is beautiful and thoughtful. Looking forward to seeing the new house too.
ReplyDeleteLisa, London
Congratulations! That's VERY cool. I think it's a perfect fit for you.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Trina!! The magazine is so lucky to have you on their team. Can't wait to read of your new adventures.
ReplyDeletexxojoan
How exciting for you!! Congratulations Trina.Wishing you the Best!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Gee
Fantastic, Trina. So very happy for you. May your new endeavour bring you great joy! I look forward to seeing what you come up with for CL.
ReplyDeletePS Any publication that features a Boston Terrier on the cover has my vote!
That sounds lovely and with your eye for detail I am sure you are the right person for the job. Good luck for your new career!
ReplyDeleteHow great is this :)
ReplyDeletevx
not surprised at all. you have a wonderful eye and lovely style. all my best wishes on your new, fun venture...donna
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Trina! -this is such a great news!
ReplyDeleteAs we financially struggle as a young family, I was wondering if I should even be spending so much time and energy trying to decorate and create our home.
But reading this post reminded me the importance of the beauty we create in our lives.
I'm so glad Country Living chose you for the position, for we can all benefit from your deep understanding of what it means to create a beautiful home.
WOW ... a very hearty CONGRATS!!!! And to think the initial reason you started this blog has come to this opportunity...SO cool...kinda gives me chills!!! You are SO talented ... perfect fit! I can't wait to see your name in CL!!
ReplyDeleteTrina,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Well deserved. You of course are a natural fit and as always love what you create.

Anon, It's under Catherine Burke. Trina is an abbreviation of Catherine. Best, Trina
ReplyDeleteGreat news. Shift has begun.
ReplyDeleteHope other mags have begun too.
Marketing companies also.
What?
Hire incredible bloggers.
Already adore Country Living, now even more !
Remember House & Garden from the 80's? Would love to get THAT back again.
Garden & Be Well, XO Tara
Congratulations! That's wonderful news!
ReplyDeleteYou are PERFECT for this job! So excited for you. I can't wait to see your next house even though every time I look at one of your blog posts I can't imagine you finding another home/land area that could be better than this one you have worked so hard on.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Trina!! You are so very talented and have a lovely "eye" for design. I can totally see why they asked you to be a contributing editor!
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
Julia
Congratulations, Trina! From the first time I laid eyes on your blog, I've thought you and Mike had a style that embodied the Country Living aesthetic. How appropriate, then, that you are now a Contributing Editor. Well done Country Living, and well done you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You will be fabulous in this position!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You certainly have a decorating point of view and that always makes the best editors. I can't help but notice that Country Living (all magazines and newspapers, in fact)feature their text justified left as it is easier on the reader. Good to note!
ReplyDeleteTrina, this is so special...always a favorite magazine of mine as well1 i am certain after following the gorgeous work you have done, that you will be a fabulous "contributor". I think hubs should take you for a congratulatory dinner!
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised. I heard a different voice, more Catherine, less Trina, in the magazine, someone who knows the feel of each kind of window pane.
ReplyDeleteI think it's more common to make someone a contributing editor if they're a colleague who's moving away, or if they're already a very well-known figure. They wanted your voice. This is a HUGE HUGE HUGE BIG DEAL. So happy for you. YAY!!!!!!!
Take good care,
Em
Wow...congratulations! I'm sure that you'll do beautifully.:)
ReplyDeleteRita
Congratulations! I am glad you are able to turn a passion into a job... And congratulations to CL for having found you!!! Great eye, you both
ReplyDeleteGiovanna
Trina, I can't think of a better job for you, congratulations. And what a wonderful contributor you will be, they are lucky to have your wonderful insight and style.
ReplyDeleteKat
Congratulations Trina! How exciting! (Now I know who I can send some house pics to in a couple weeks!) So happy for you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! How very exciting! You have such great vision, I'm sure it will be a perfect fit! I have been a subscriber to Country Living since I was a young girl. Back then, my best friend and I would spend all of our allowance money purchasing decor magazines so that we could cut them up and create our "dream home" and "dream life." Like, Pinterest before there was Pinterest. It was (and is) my childhood dream to be in the magazine someday! My husband and I just purchased an old home that we are restoring. Someday... ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats! It DOES sound important! :) I have to say, I think I'd like to quote you on several things you wrote in this post alone!! Such powerful words....your name is going to be in a book some day...just watch. ;)
ReplyDeleteO Happy Day,
Gail
WOW!!! This is exciting news!! I am so happy for you Trina! Congratulations and I look forward to what you bring to this great magazine!! xo Lisa
ReplyDeleteThat is just fabulous news! Country Living is by far my favorite magazine...it has the perfect mix of decor, featured stories, recipes and gorgeous photos....lucky Country Living to have someone with your talents work for them!
ReplyDeleteCatt in Kentucky
Trina - any news on the big move? We sold a home in So. California almost 5 years ago - it has been featured on several home/garden tours and we put our heart and soul into that home....it was sad to leave it but our move across the U.S. to KY has been a fabulous experience for us - Kentucky is gorgeous and such great people. I know your move will be an adventure - tht is how we looked at it - an adventure and it has been! Best of luck and love to you.
ReplyDeleteCatt in Kentucky
Congratulations, i bought that magazine on a recent trip to USA, I was really enjoying it, but put it in the seat pocket on the plane as i was so tired (flying back to australia), then i got off the plane and forgot it - i was kicking myself!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I've been a reader of Country Living from the first issue, way back when. In fact, for many years I saved every issue.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a wonderful opportunity for you.
Congratulations, Trina. What a compliment to be approached by the magazine! You'll do a great job, I know. I'm a subscriber to Country Living, so I'll keep my eye out for your work. Enjoy your new position there!
ReplyDeleteClaudia

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And I say they know exactly what they are doing, as you are quite valuable, and are very lucky to have snapped you up. I too have loved Country Living for decades, and know that their continued success is because of the team behind the scenes, and you are now part of that. Have fun with this new adventure. :) donna
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Trina!! Country Living is lucky to have you!

OMG... I am so HAPPY for YOU & your family. I loved reading your blog...with the simplest wording and beautiful settings you always captured my attention. Yee-haw for Country Living... which I have been a fan for many years...& you will be a Shining Star!
ReplyDeleteAll my best :)
Congratulations, Trina! That is wonderful news... what an amazing addition you will be.
ReplyDeletePS Just to be clear, I also enjoy the Trina voice, I just felt the Catherine voice sounded maybe a bit more authoritative and professional, verus more cosy or homey, the way I think we're probably all a little different in different situations...Catherine probably wouldn't do a retrospective of her home for publication in which she pretends she and her husband are prospective buyers, seeing the house in its restored state as if for the first time, complete with little photo cutouts of the happy couple, but I thought that was truly darling. And who knows, maybe she would! That would be her contributing-editorial perogative.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Em
Hi Trina,
ReplyDeleteYour news is so exciting! I love your style! Now you will be a part of my favorite American design publication.
Your lovely home is the most favorite of mine to date. It is also admired here in Canada.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations....not a real surprise...you have done a lot with them already and they love your style, hope it ends up being 'truly' fun for you and your family,
ReplyDeleteCorinne
It is a good question you ask about what a making a 'home' not just styling a house really is......
Maybe you can incorporate some antique style back into Country Living. I rather miss the way it used to be. Remember those articles by Jo Northup (I think that was how her name was spelled). Oh, I loved reading the stories of how she spent her days. I sure miss articles like that. Maybe your writing will bring some of that charm back to Country Living.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and good luck on your new venture!
Spot on my dear! Your home is spectacular in a very quiet kind of way. Beautiful yet demure which is so much more engaging to me than in your face decor. I have truly enjoyed the journey of the reno. You have an exquisite eye and I would love to see Country Living offer more of that in
ReplyDeletethe future. So bring it on! And hearty congratulations Trina!
Congratulations!! What an honor and I'm sure you will be a great asset to them!
