October Pears




Last spring I decided to go all white with the items on our kitchen shelves. Over the years, I've seen many images of open shelves similarly adorned and have always thought it looked so crisp and clean. 

So we've enjoyed the all-white look through the summer and into autumn. As we are nearly into November, I just pulled out my brown transfer ware to freshen up the shelves for the Thanksgiving season. But before I do, I thought I'd do a quick post on the shelves as they've been for
 the last few months. 

The pear harvest is well underway in our valley, with thousands of trees heavy with sweet fruit dangling from their limbs. 

On the first day of Christmas,
 my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree...

What? I guess a vision of sugarplums dancing snuck in there...


Sweet pears. 

Mike walked into the kitchen this afternoon and knew that a post was in development - our toaster, baby bottles, and other miscellaneous counter fixtures had found their way to the other 
side of the room.

    Hi Trina,

    Once again beautiful photographs, please could you let me know what camera you use. We are on the verge of making a decision on which one to get with the array of them out there it is not easy!

    Whew...glad to know that you moms of pristine-looking kitchens also have bottles/nipples/sippy cups, toasters etc. that gravitate to counter tops! :)

    Yay! Since I saw a peak of those 'all white shelves for summer' in your Summer post I was so hoping you'd do a post on them. I love, love, love white and your open shelves with all white dishes is such a treat of simplicity and loveliness. Just beautiful.

    I love your shelves with the white - also your other dishes when you display them. Brown transferware just looks so cozy! I'm wondering though where you store your other dishes when not in use - in the basement or pantry?

    The all white is beautiful, but then so is your transferware. It's lovely that you get to change it and have a fresh view in the kitchen! Funny, that you put up the "partridge in a pear tree" - just yesterday I decided that will be the theme for our family's Christmas card this year. Every year I have my children participate in making a card which we have printed. I can just picture my 3 juicy little pears and my little partridge (I'll do the tree :) Happy, happy autumn to your sweet family!

    Ah yes ... many a pile of "stuff" has be swept aside, cropped out or ... put away for some picture taking. (More of the first two, let's face it.)

    Beautiful as always Trina!! I love how the pears really pop against all the pretty white.
    I was laughing at your comment about moving everything out of the way as I did the same thing recently for photos and thought 'if people could only see the pile that's hiding on the other counters and in the sink'!

    To me, what really makes your shelves fab is the painting. It gives it a sophisticated air, and the all whiteness of everything else really makes the painting stand out.

    White, you've got it girl. I have a white kitchen, cabinets, appliances, walls, counter tops. Back when I just had the new white cabinets put in I couldn't make up my mind about floor covering. Man of the Year said, why don't you just paint the floor white until you make up your mind. So I did. Used polyurathane with white pigment added and slopped it on the bare plywood flooring. It looked great. That paint is still there, I never did figure out anything any better. I got hemp rugs to go in the traffic areas. It pleases me to walk into that kitchen. It always looks clean. And I keep down the clutter, makes it look kind of crisp, inviting, ready for me to cook. I love white, or did I already say that? Ann

    This is looking good! I admire your consequent style, regardless of baby bottles, toaster and such. Yet in my book you can't go wrong either way!
    I can't wait to see the brown transfer ware gracing your shelves...

    I like your white shelves and cabinets. Now that fall is here, the brown will make the room seem so warm. I love pears, and you are so lucky to have them.     I noticed before this pretty little basket with the lid on your kitchen counter. I saw a similar one (smaller) at a thriftstore. I didn't buy it because I wasn't sure what to do with it. What do you keep in yours?

    I keep my vitamins in ours. We also keep our cheat sheets to our favorite recipes (pancakes, french toast, basil, hummus, etc.).

    I have a similar white sheving situation off my kitchen. Af first I filled it with all the ceramics I have, every imaginable color. It didn't go down. I took everythig off and left only the white. What a difference! My complements for total peace of this display, it's really elegant!

    Beautiful shelf display. I have very similar white open shelves and I display just white plus my wine/champagne glasses on it. I love how you have added the little vintage picture to it.

    I never get tired of seeing another version of your kitchen with its beautiful open shelves!

    I have enjoyed pears on my salads lately mixed with fresh greens, walnuts, dried cranberries and gorgonzola cheese. YUM.
