Winter came early this year. But it seems that Old Man Winter used up his snowflakes all at once because it's looking a lot like spring around here. In fact, things are so green that we've been graced with our first show of flowers.
I caught sight of them from our bedroom window and still in my nightgown, decided to go outside and give them a proper welcome.
Here's a small bouquet that I brought inside. For such little flowers, they have an amazingly strong fragrance. It's a fragrance very similar to that of gardenias.
Here they are smiling after being in the warm house for a few hours. My friend Catherine told us that they are called Snowdrops and bloom in early spring.
Welcome sweet little Snowdrops.
WOW! You are so lucky! We are in the middle of a blizzard. I so wish I had beautiful flowers growing in my yard.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are Snowdrops, my favourite early flower, and surprisingly there are lots of different ones! Enjoy the green and the lovely perfume.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Rose H
How lovely! Snowdrops look pretty closed and open. Love the little vase too. Is it alabaster?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your spring-like weather while much of the rest of the country is in the throes of winter.
Claudia
oh your so lucky, we are in the middle of a huge snow storm 20"+! im dreaming of those sweet smelling May flowers already.
ReplyDeleteGood morning! Such pretty flowers, I loved how you said they were smiling!! We have about 12 inches or more of store still on the ground and an ice storm today! No snowdrops in my garden yet - but hopefully sometime very soon! Ciao, bella.

ReplyDeleteWow! I can't wait to see flowers blooming again. Those are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh, I wish I could say the same for Boston, but not much luck! We have a bumper crop of snow! ;)Alyssa of Boston Bee
ReplyDeleteI haven'd seen any green in my neck of the woods since November. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteThe snowdrops are lovely!
Our snowdrops are in bloom too. Around here they are the first signs of Spring, blooming before anything else. Have you seen the Martha Stewart snowdrops: http://www.marthastewart.com/article/crepe-paper-crocuses-and-snowdrops-how-to - they would be so cute to make!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your early spring! The snowdrops are lovely! Carla
ReplyDeleteOld man winter is here with all of your snowflakes....we are having a record winter, lots of snow, ice, and snow days....the 2nd one this week.
ReplyDeletepve
Beautiful flowers. We went for a walk around the neighborhood the other day and started to notice Daffodils sprouting up everywhere and our Camellias bushes in the side yard are in full bloom with bright red flowers :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so fortunate. We are in the midst of a winter storm with lots of ice and now snow. this is day 2 and still all roads and schools are closed. But we are enjoying out time together! Be blessed. Dianntha
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Snowdrops already? You are blessed indeed! And those babes, are they not the best harbinger of spring as they grow and change daily? Hope you are getting some modicum of rest!
ReplyDeleteLucky girl! We are buried knee deep in ice and snow and I'm aching to see some sun! Enjoy the green and flowers!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing images of my favorite flowers; Snowdrops! A little research will tell you that there are A LOT of variety here... They are so delicate and pretty!
ReplyDeleteNorthern Light
Delightful. Those little buds would freeze here in AZ today.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful. We still have a layer of snow on the ground so I am jealous of your early spring!
ReplyDeleteNo snowdrops up here on the Island, but that's only because I forget every year to plant them. Crocuses are starting to pop up though, and I can see an inch of daffodil leaf pushing through the soil here and there. I love a green winter!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful! I am anticipating the day our flowers start to bloom, too. The snow is gone and the sun is shining...it might be soon:). Your two little ones are just precious.
ReplyDelete~Julia
Im so jealous. I live in Northwest Arkansas and just got 8 inches of snow on Tuesday. We wont go back to school until next week because its so cold. I will enjoy your beautiful flowers and wish for a quick spring.
ReplyDeleteHeather
oh. lovely:). I'm jealous- we're getting record snowfalls here in the Boston area. I can't wait to see the first sign of spring. Hope the babes are doing well!!
ReplyDeleteBlair
It's a snow day here in Toronto. We just got a storm that started in Texas and has dumped all over the east. No Green in sight!
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet little blossoms! I'm glad you are enjoying a little break from the harshness of winter. North Texas, oddly enough, is in single digit temps and covered in sleet and ice! Ha!
ReplyDeleteP.S. How are you doing these days? Are the little ones sleeping better? How about you and hubby? Are you breast or bottle feeding?
love the shot of your feet...I love MY muck boots too! They've been hangin' in there for 7 years now, might be time to get a new pair:) Love your blog!
ReplyDeletethese just made my cold winter's day!
ReplyDeleteTrina,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that little peak of spring you've been blessed with so early. Snowdrops are such pretty little flowers. And, they are so fragrant, which makes them even more of a welcome after a long winter. We are currently in the middle of a massive snow storm up here in Canada, and little things like this are gentle reminders that spring, and all it's loveliness, will be here very soon.
Hope all is well with you and your sweet babies.

oh, these are so cute! :) i can't wait for spring!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blooms! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSuch a simple flower but so pretty and welcome. xx
ReplyDeleteEnjoy! We are so far from Spring here...it shows up mid May! We woke this morning to -35! expecting colder tonight. We moved to the Colorado Rockies from Astoria and days like this I miss the mild weather and all the green...enjoy the Pacific Northwest today for me!
ReplyDeleteWelcome, indeed! I, live out west, too and we are having (very unusual!) spring like weather here. It's usually very cold here this time of year. Guess the east and midwest are getting enough for everyone. Trina, I have a completely unrelated question: With regard to your countertops, what made you choose that material? Was that your first choice? I ask because we are just getting ready to begin a kitchen makeover and love your countertops, but was thinking of a mix of butcher block and something else like stone? If you had used something else, what would you have chosen? I so admire your taste and would love your opinion. Thank you. Take Care
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious surprise to unfold your day...
Deborah xo
They are beautiful, but you're killing us!! I long to see that green stuff under your feet!
