Petaled Friends

I'm thinking spring. It's hard not to (despite the snow) when you see bouquets of tulips and daffodils in the grocery store. So I've gathered some photos I took of the flowers we enjoyed last year to tide me through the next couple of months of winter.

The first spring flowers that grace our land are the blossoming fruit trees - they are absolutely breathtaking.

These were the first peonies I clipped at the flower farm. They were so gorgeous and delicate and their pink blossoms enormous!

We have some very old lilac bushes that probably need some serious pruning. They are a bit tattered and worse for wear, but still produce the most fragrant smelling flowers. I take this as my cue to gather them up in bunches and spread them throughout the house.

This was the bouquet I was most proud of last summer as it was the very first clipping from our newly planted rose and peony bushes.

These are the first clippings from the Little Lamb Hydrangea bushes I planted.

These are also Little Lamb Hydrangea but were clipped towards the end of summer, after they turned from milky white to a blushing pink.

And these were the last of the rose clippings before the frost came and lulled everything to sleep.

I've missed my petaled friends and can't wait to see them again this spring.

  7. It's so lovely to have the photos to remember your lovely flowers. I miss being able to pick flowers from my garden very much, but since moving here to this sub-tropical climate, none of the flowers I love will grow:o(

  10. I love peonies and hydrangea and have a few varieties, but never saw Little Lamb Hydrangea! I will have to look for them and hope they will grow in NY-zone! I do let mine dry and keep them for the winter, but I never took photos of them and this year I will!

  11. I love the pictures. My favorite flowers in the world are lilacs (remind me of my grandmother's home), peonies (she, also, had), and hydrangea. Throw in some tulips and I'd be really excited! Hard to grow all those in Texas.

  12. I'm anxiously looking for some Hyacinth bulbs--they're my favorite spring-time flower! Talk about fragrant. I might also pick up some Paper Whites, as they're also a great winter-into-spring flower. Your photos have me dreaming of blooming trees!

  18. Wow- you have some beautiful surroundings both inside your home and out! I am so jealous about your lilacs. I used to have a lilac tree in Colorado and every spring it would produce the most fragrant and gorgeous purple blooms. It's a totally different world in Texas~ about the only thing I can keep alive in the summer heat here is begonias.
Thanks for sharing your lovelies with us.

  23. Just found your blog and am now following. You have a lovely home. The shot of your kitchen in this photo is really similar to mine. Love the flowers too! I'm not adventurous with flowers and tend to stick to Lilies as they are my favourites - and also my daughter's name!

PS I really love lilacs and am trying a new variety to grow here in California that doesn't need a hard frost. I hope it grows!

  34. Just found your blog and have read the whole thing and am now a follower. What an incredible transformation. Thanks for sharing so many lovely photos.

Question: in the first photo of your Little Lamb Hydrangea, we see a bathroom faucet. Was this a faucet you replaced and if so, who is the supplier? (It's gorgeous).
