Winter

After several months of a mild green Winter, the snow has come. Over two feet of snow fell over
the course of one cozy winter day. It is knee deep, and as high as the porch floor.

The landscape is quiet under a blanket of white.

The berry garden (blackberries and blueberries) will be sleepy for some time.

The soft twinkle from the holiday lights still strung along the fence whisper a soft warmth.

The dining patio stands still. I was out to sweep the boxwood
hedge, something I do after each big snowstorm.

The dining room is very quiet early on this snowy winter morning.
The babies are playing in the warm coziness of the living room with 'DaDa.'

  2. Gorgeous!!!!

We normally get lots of snow, by this time of the year, we wouldn't be surprise to have a couple of feet of the fluffy white stuff on the ground, but this year, nothing!!! We can still see the grass peeking trough the snow! and the cold, of the cold weather!

I love snow better then the cold!!!

  3. Such idyllic winter scenes - both the photos and the word-pictures. I love the little touches of twinkle lights amidst all that blue-shadowed, cold whiteness.

  7. Beautiful! So peaceful and serene. No snow here, although this time last year we were defrosting from a nasty ice storm!!

  9. How odd, we are on the other side of the Atlantic (plus the Baltic) and we have exactly the same weather over here... It has snowed sooo much these last few days.

  11. This is so very lovely! It is warm here in Texas this year and I long for the deep snows we had the last 2 years!

I will look at your picture often to pretend I am tucked in to a peaceful place!

  12. This is so beautiful! Her in Texas, the weather has been unseasonably warm and I fear we will not have the deep snows of the last two years. You have given me pictures to go back and look at when the sun is shining down!

I would love to have copies of these in an email. That way I could actually look at them from afar!

  13. Oh my goodness me - that is serious snow! Hope you are all keeping warm and safe.

  14. Wow, I thought that the west coast didn't get much snow (at least my relatives in Seattle didn't). These pictures are so beautiful!
I love your blog, not only for the interesting posts and clear lovely pictures--I love the appreciation for the earth's precious resources, your decorating magic and the love of family....

  16. Such pretty photos.

We had a few inches overnight but nothing more than that so far. Even in the city, the snow makes everything quiet. It's so peaceful.

  22. Hi Chris,
Lucy is here but just doesn't get around so well anymore. This time of year is especially hard on her.
I'll tell her that you say, "hello!"

  23. Ah .. I was thinking of Lucy just the other day too. My little one is almost 19 and has slowed way down. Over the past few winters I have had to shovel walkways and p-spots for her, whereas before she loved to just romp around in it.

And Trina, you have no tracks in your photos - nice touch! You all keep warm and enjoy the snow-in :)

  25. Very beautiful, I have never laid my eyes in real life on that ort of snow. I live in outback Australia and its been boiling lately. These photos are a welcome relief. Are you still able to access your town with this much snow? How much do you need to cut your access? I love that sort of isolation where you've only got your close neighbors to share pantry items and your time with.

  26. I live in Oregon also, but we're just getting rained on right now... You have the loveliest setting there! Hope you don't have to go anywhere for a while!

  27. Oh that look beautiful.
Those lights twinkling in the snow add a nice touch too.

    Keep warm!

  30. Hi Jodie,
Town is about a twenty minute drive and the road is usually plowed and sanded so it's typically okay. Our road however is not maintained by the town, nor is our driveway of course, so the hardest part about getting into town is just making it up the dirt road.

  33. Nor have we that much snow here in south-western archipelago of Finland, it must be the sea that makes it too mild this year, but enjoy your winter-land...:)

  34. The porch shot is fabulous. We had our first real snow this week, with more on the way today. Enjoy playing!

  35. Simply stunning images. I am considering a Northern Hemisphere Winter trip this year and seeing these gorgeous photos is inspiring me to get saving! I can't complain about the weather here in Australia but I do miss the sheer beauty of snow scenes. Your place looks picture postcard pretty.

  36. Lovely setting, scrumptious trees dressed in white . . . I love the twinkling lights against the snow and visualizing you "sweeping the boxwood" . . .

  37. Wow! That's a lot of snow. We live in WA state - and are recovering from a fairly good size snow storm. We aren't equipped for this, so when we get a foot of snow it creates chaos. Our home is up in the foothills and we were without power up until last night.. Gorgeous pictures of your property!

  38. That is absolutely gorgeous! And, I am so jealous!

  39. How beautiful! I'm still praying for snow down here in Texas...haha. :) Hey it could happen...last year it snowed for like a week!

Keep warm and hug those sweet little babies.

  42. It's 39 degrees celcius in Western Australia today which is 102.2 farenheit so snow is a LITTLE hard to relate to lol. Must confess I love the heat so it's no biggie for me...we have a swimming pool but no air conditioning so at least we have ONE way to cool off. Snow? We see it on postcards and Xmas cards here in Perth hahaha but that's as close as we ever get to it! Your pics are so picture perfect!

  43. Trina I love the shot of the garden fence with the lights sparkling from beneath. Lovely. Makes me miss Christmas. I always miss christmas. It snowed her too. I posted my photos but I was bummed that my trees weren't filled with heavy snow making everything look magical. Last year we had so much snow, it took 3 months to leave and we were so sick of it. And this year so far we have just gotten two snow falls. So strange. But maybe it's better for this week that we only got 4 inches because my husband is away at Sundance and I would have to plow. Love how the porch reflects the snow and it almost gives off a blue light. Love it.

  47. Stunningly beautiful...

We have just moved home to the beaches of Australia, after four years in the English countryside...our youngest daughter is used to snow and cold weather at this time of year {it was snowing as we left England in our little village} and now she is in a little bikini at the beach every morning, with her big brother and sister...we are redoing our beach house after decorating a big old english country house for so long- it is lovely to see your snow pictures...

  48. Such peaceful photos from mother nature! I hope that your little family is keeping warm and cozy together. Our family had the unfortunate luck of being in the Ice Storm of 1998 in Quebec and our 2 little dogs did not enjoy being layered in coats while hubby kept the fire going...just too darn cold for way too long. Hope your power failures are memories! NB in Ontario, Canada

  50. I've just discovered your blog through a link somewhere else, no idea now where as have been blog hopping the last hour. What a lovely blog you have, I have been looking through your house photos, which is reminding me I must put some of my own home on my blog, something I haven't done yet as wanting a better camera.

The photos of the snow above are beautiful, I cannot believe how deep it is as I am sitting in New Zealand looking out at sunshine at the moment, its our Summer, well meant to be but its actually been quite chilly and overcast.

Thank you for sharing your home, I will definitely be back to see more.
