Cherry Season

We've been gobbling up local organic cherries like these since last week and can't stop.  At the farm stands you can get them as fresh as can be - within a couple hours of being picked.

Last year I made a cherry pie - this year (with our hands full of babes), we'll just eat them straight from the colander - plain and simple.

Next up are peaches and nectarines!

Also, we had some very special guests last week. I look forward to posting about the visit in the next few days.

  1. We picked our cherries yesterday and ate them all afternoon. It was our first real harvest from a tree we planted fie years ago - at least it was the first time we were there ahead of the birds.

  6. Hello Trina

I am a first time commenter here though I have loved your beautiful blog from afar for some time now.

I have recently started my own blog after much deliberation and finally have the bloggers exhilaration.

I love cherries as well and being in Australia - we get to enjoy at Christmas time.
Always a welcome addition to the Christmas table with the white table cloth and the cherries adding their deep Christmasy red tone and flavour.

I am looking forward to your peaches and nectarines.

  7. I grew up in a teeny-tiny valley that had cherry orchards (along with apples, peaches, etc.) and miss not being able to pick my own. Your photo made me miss Idaho! xoxo michele

  10. We are enjoying them here in central IL, too! Straight out of the colander. We have grown to love the Rainer cherries. Ours are not quite as fresh as your farm stand, but still very good. I love your photo, as always.

  14. Those cherries look delicious. My hubby loves cherries, but they are so high in price to buy in the stores here. Peaches are my favorite, and we have been having alot of sliced peaches on top of our vanilla ice cream last week, and for the 4th, I had made a peach cobbler. Both fruits are so good, and we can't seem to get enough of them.

  15. Aren't they the greatest, Trina? We made some pies out of the trees on our property as well as pitted and froze some for this winter to mix in our vanilla yogurt we have for dessert. :) I purchased some peaches last week at market and they were so juicy and delicious! LUV summertime!!!

  31. Oh my goodness! I'm very new to blogging and in thinking that my comment went into a black hole, I kept reposting. Since they all said pretty much the same thing, I believe I deleted the excess. Clearly, I love your blog and your cherries!

    Thank you, Trina.
