"Bye bye lilac...see you next year."

This is what I said to Graham and Margaret as we walked around the yard. Due to extensive rain fall this past week, the lilacs are bidding their final farewell.
We also walked around to say hello to fresh new blossoms...

"Hello clematis...nice to meet you."

"Hello rosa rugosa...nice to meet you too."

The peonies are filled with ripening buds. I hope that we'll be able to say hello to them soon also.

Here are a couple of our last lilac bouquets.

  2. Those are just beautiful! I love lilac. I brought in a huge bouquet of hydrangeas today and I guess I never realized how similar they are to lilac. Your bouquets are lovely....

  8. You have such a serene blog. I read it constantly, from Brisbane Australia. I have loved your lilac posts. When my first granddaughter was born some years ago in London, great festoons of lilac hung luxuriously over the brick fences of Hampstead. I will always associate it with a very special time in my life. Now you have your babies and the lilac is flowering for them.

  14. Ha, I'm not crazy.

I feel the same way when blooms finish for another year.

When blooms start anew I feel like a dear/beloved friend has come back to me.

  15. Good Morning Trina,
Life is full of wonder when you have little ones isn't it. It was sad seeing our lilacs go but that was 2 months ago and ours didn't last long because of our drought. Yours are beautiful...including the whites. I love the new look to your bathroom especially the shower curtains...gorgeous! I hope you and your sweet family have a wonderful day.

  17. Trina, you will have them quoting botanical names in no time...when I was very young we had a 'pentapterygium' in the garden and I knew it's name! Robx

  21. Your photo's are gorgeous. Actually, they always are. But, that middle one of the Lilac's in a vase, is a beauty. It really should be framed or painted.

  22. Wonderful way to focus on the positive Trina...I'm always so sad when the lilac's 'say goodbye', but focusing on 'blossoms to be' is the perfect way to remedy this.
I love that some of Graham and Margaret's first words and conversations will be with and about flowers...how sweet is that?!

  31. Purple lilacs are New Hampshire's state flower; yes, we are fortunate! I always enjoy your blog; your pictures are so crisp and clean. Visiting your site is very calming, to me.

  32. Trina, this is such a beautiful Lilac that you guys have. It makes me getting jealous seeing it since down here in SE Texas Lilacs wouldn't do too good at all.
When I grew up in KS, my dad used to have a big Lilac in his garden and I just loved the scent of the blossoms. One bouquet like yours could fill our big living room with a fresh scent for several days.

  33. The lilac's are so beautiful. It's to bad they are leaving for the year. It's always nice to see plants flower, but then I hate it when the pretty flowers start to fade away.

  36. So lovely! You sound a bit like me, looking through my garden and welcoming new buds and saying good bye to expired blossoms....
My roses are now in full bloom, peonies gone due to too much rain, lilacs gone already for some weeks. But black eyed susan, lavender, sage, they all are ready to bloom now! Clematis has all the buds ready and my hibiscus is gone wild with flowers! A garden is such fun!
