September Pears

Happy first of September to you! The neighboring orchards are bursting with voluptuous ripe pears. Looking down the long green corridor always makes me want to run wild past the sweet smell of the fruiting branches.

As with the dahlias, the pears bring a bittersweet feeling of joy and melancholy as another September harvest will soon come to a close. But the beauty of the four seasons is that as one season comes to an end, another spectacular new season begins.

Saying goodbye to summer would be so much more difficult if the approaching fall season didn't offer such a wonderful promise of warm fuzzies. Autumn colors, cozy sweaters, misty mornings, quiet evenings, a warm fire...and of course, the anticipation of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. And this year, our most anticipated occasion of all - the birth of our sweet little babies. xoxo

Leaving the pear orchards, I found myself singing...

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
A Partridge in a Pear tree...

On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear tree...

On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
Three French Hens
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear tree...

...and on it goes.

  2. I have two huge seckle pear trees in my orchard that are positively brimming with fruit! I can't remember such a harvest. They will be ready to pick and can soon! I'll be posting about it on my blog.

How are you feeling lately? What are strong lady to carry two precious little babies! I have two kiddos myself, 20 months and 5 months. With my first, I had gall stones and broke my ribs at 7 months. Agony. I hope you are doing better than I was. Do you have names in mind yet? Best!

  3. Janet,
That's so funny...yes, running is out of the question. Walking is best, or in my case, it's more like waddling.

  15. Autumn is hands-down my favourite season so I can not wait to see what you'll have for me to read about and see over the coming months (especially as southern California doesn't really do autumn - ahhhh I'm homesick).

  19. I too am anticipating Fall and the coziness and crisp, cool days it offers. What will you make with the pears? I'll bet you have some fabulous recipes up your sleeve.

Have you ever heard of the Beaba baby food maker? I can totally see you digging on of these when it comes time to feed your babies real food. It's suppose to be one of the best ways to make baby food...if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Hope you are feeling well these days and getting lots of rest!

    Happy day,

    Gail

  24. I bought my first pears of the season yesterday, they didn't come from a beautiful orchard farmstand though...just the grocery store, but they were delicious none the less!Thank heaven that each season has it's special gifts to offer and to look forward to (babies being the most special)! I think heading into this fall has been extra bittersweet because it took summer so long to get here, and now it's leaving...but seeing those beautiful orchards and thinking about all of falls treasures makes it somehow okay.

I will be trying very hard though, not to have this lovely Christmas song dancing around in my head to day thank you very much Trina, as it is sunny out and I'm going to pretend it's still summer! ;)

(this was such a cute post btw...and yes, please do just waddle!!) XO J~

  28. Beautiful and yummy at your house! So lovely to see your growing belly too! I cannot wait to see the nursery as I know it will be classic and beautiful and perfect.

Thanks for your comments on the linen. I am very worried about choosing a nice linen. Some of it seems quite hard and I have to say that is probably a good thing as it is very tightly woven upholstery grade which means it won't stretch and sag. But still, I like soft things. Lee doesn't have many natural linen coloured fabrics in cotton or anything with a softer hand than linen. I really want that colour but wanted something softer, like a nice linen cotton blend. But frustrated that many are "crunchy"! Is your linen very soft or is it harder? Does it soften with time and wear?

More posts on this to come...!

  32. We have had such a cool summer in southern California that we are now hoping we will have a little warm weather before fall approaches.
I know many of you have suffered with an unbearable heat wave for most of the summer and I do hope fall is very cool and lovely for you. But, I hope summer continues a little longer out here.
The pear trees are beautiful. Just think, next year at this time you will be pushing a stroller by the trees and in a few short years after that you will be watching your little children play ring-around-the-rosie near the trees. It is all a time to be cherished.

  42. What a lovely post! I really miss the orchards of the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia where my family lives. We just don't get the fruit selection or quantity here in Kansas that I was used to up there. I'm not complaining though as we have two pear trees here on the farm. The first tree to ripen had every bit of fruit stripped from the branches while we were away visiting my family! The next one will be ready for picking soon and I plan on beating the birds to the harvest this time! I hope you have a wonderful day...enjoy your pears!
