I woke up this morning and decided to cut some dahlias at the flower farm. It was a bittersweet feeling to see the dahlias in full bloom. On the one hand, I was excited to see their fresh blossoms, but also a little sad as their blossoms are a sure sign that summer is coming to an end.
I smiled as I approached the flower fields and saw all of the different varieties of dahlias blooming so happily under the soft August sun.
I decided to limit my cuttings to the pink variety. The dahlias will be growing strong until our first frost, so there are many weeks left for me to return and clip other varieties.

Oh, Trina...they are beautiful! Catherine turned me on to dahlias and now I'm having a love affair with them too. Are the pale pink ones "Gay Princess" by any chance? Prolific and lovely....enjoy the rest of summer and congrats to your growing family!

ReplyDeleteThese dahlias are beautiful. Dahlias, like most flowers, always remind me of my mom. They are my favorite flower. The CSA we belong to has a picking farm, and with our share, we can pick all we want. I think of your earlier posts of the picking farm every time I go out with my scissors. It's such a wonderful part of the week.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your note on the Lee furniture. I am totally paralysed by this decision as it is very expensive. The sofa with Z grade (near top) fabric is $4300 and the chair with BB (top) is $1900. I think the chair price is okay compared to all the junk I have seen but the sofa is mad.
I want linen but David is afraid it will be rough. Do you find your linen rough? I know you went with Rowe, but we don't have a supplier for that with any volume. I have seen your chairs but found them a little too small for my fat butt and the fact that I like to curl up and tuck my legs under in the chair and read. So I want a wider, deeper seat.
I do love the Lee sofa but I am so afraid to buy sight-unseen. As I said, I am comfortable with the dimensions knowing what seat height and depth I like (our current sofa is almost identical) but it is the slope of the back and its firmness that concerns me. THAT I cannot imagine. I know how my butt will feel from sitting on the down-wrapped core on several other pieces, but how will my back feel when I lean back?!
Tough call. We have such shitty furniture and decor stores here that everything nice is custom but how do you buy a sofa custom?!!!! Even Ethan Allen has ugly stuff mostly that doesn't look stylish and modern and fresh. Other than that it is the usual junk from Bernhardt, etc. for $3000 for something that isn't special or unique or made with any concern for the planet.
I am torn!
ANyway, know you went through a similar dilemma so thanks for listening. Do you like your sofa? I always wonder how they sit.

This may be a really silly question, but do you ever have problems with ants or spiders on your flowers. We have a hydrangea bush that I LOVE and I want to cut the flowers but there are little ants all over them and I don't really want ants inside my house. :( Am I being ridiculous? :) Just thought I would ask someone with more experience if there were any inside tips. :)
