Hungry for Spring

We're having a warm spell these last few days, and it is making me all the more hungry for spring. Our local grocery has been keeping beautiful spring flowers in stock, and I'm rarely able to resist bringing home an armful of fresh blossoms.

This week it's lilies.

Last week it was daffodils.

The week before that, white tulips.

...and here's the last of the white tulips as they were beginning to fade.

We had a busy weekend as we finally began our 'renovation' of the old sauna. This includes (present tense -we're still working on it!) removing the old steam benches (to be recycled into shelving), and prepping (with primer and spackle) and painting the wall boards. Like all projects, it's taking forever, it's hard work and we probably won't be done until next weekend - photos to follow!

Off to paint! By writing this, I'm hoping that it motivates me to actually go out there and paint.

PS. We did take breaks to celebrate Valentine's Day with a couple of date nights, and a lovely fireside french toast breakfast on Valentine's Day morning!

  1. Hi Trina! I love logging on and seeing a new post from you. I love how everything is so simple and you let the flowers be your accessories. It's still blizzarding in NE and very few flowers in our markets.
So, I'm painting my kitchen today and it's a disaster-it was supposed to be a very light creamy beige color so there's a LITTLE contrast with the cabinets and trim but it is looking purple/gray. I'm afraid to keep going!
Looking forward to seeing the sauna-you lucky girl!

  4. I hear you! I went out today and was poking around in the leaves looking for any sign of life and I actually found a few! February and March always seem to last forever here in New England so seeing some green shoots was so exciting it made me do some spring cleaning today!

  8. Your flower pictures are beautiful and I love the milk glass vase you have the tulips in in the last photo . I was at the grocery store today, but they didn't have anything that jumped out at me, no tulips, mostly just carnations that were on their last legs! I hope to find some primroses somewhere this week though.

Good luck with the painting and fixing up of the sauna, I can't wait to see it when you're finished! And glad you had a nice Valentine's weekend.

  16. Gorgeous flowers Trina - I am not a yellow fan but I die for daffodils and forsythia and any other yellow flower - such a punch of happiness. But I love them all and could not choose a favorite. Your house looks happy!

  20. The flowers are so beautiful in your home. I have a little touch of the winter blues, I love to treat myself to some "grocery store" flowers, when I do my shopping. Amazing what some fresh flowers can do for the spirit. Looking forward to seeing the results of your next project. All the best, Lori
