BEFORE
It seems so long ago that this room existed in this way. It is now divided into three separate rooms (mudroom, laundry room and office). The house had two boilers - one in the main house and one in the ell, as seen above.
AFTER
There are many reasons to celebrate...A warm house, the ability to proceed with finishing the plumbing so that the water may be turned on, and to paint. We also no longer have large tanks of oil inside our home (this system is fueled by propane). And, logistically, this room (which is the laundry room) has a bit more space now that the boiler system is more compact (and the on-demand water heater is integrated).
Mike said (with a little boyhood excitement) that new plumbing of the new heating system (right half of photo above) is like being on a submarine. Boys.
I cannot end this post without saying that the house has been without any form of heat since last fall. The process in which our house transitioned to a new heating system was a laborious one. Especially because it fell into the most active time for heat related trades.
So it is with great relief and enormous gratitude that we celebrate one of life's most basic but symbolic comforts - warmth.
Happy WARMTH . . .
ReplyDeleteYou deserve this HAPPY . . .

ReplyDeleteI am continually amazed at the work that you all do on these projects that are so huge, at least to me :) , I get excited every time I see a finished room .. how impressed and happy I am for you .

Congratulations! Hooray for getting closer to moving day!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've been doing a lot of great jobb! The feeling when everything starts to work...
ReplyDeleteHappy Dance!!! Looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh my! Propane is undoubtedly more efficient than oil. We had an enormous oil tank in our basement because our house previously was the village showers, from when most of the homes still didn't have running water (into the 1970s!). We had to have a special company decontaminate it and cut it up to get it out. We were on propane but switched a couple of years ago to an electric heat pump. It cut our heat bill by 75%. But you have to be in a mild climate for a heat pump--it rarely freezes here in the south of France.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations 😀
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the finished house. Everything just looks gorgeous! I'm guessing you are even MORE anxious for it to be completed! Blessings from Missouri!
ReplyDelete"Boys."
ReplyDeleteEspecially boys w/ engineering degrees! That wall really is elegant, and I'm glad he had that moment of "excitement," with all he's done over these last couple of YEARS working on that house. You're next, Catherine. I bet that blue notebook of yours is BULGING, you will hit your decorating/gardening/cooking stride in nothing flat. If it weren't for your adorable rental house, I'd be terribly worried for you and the dumplings. Take care, dear one.

Boys will be boys and really, do we want them to grow completely up? LOL Your house is going to be wonderful and being heated, it should go quicker now. Hang in there, the end is in sight!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see more! This is one of my favorite blogs!

It’s great to know that your home finally has a heating system and you were able to finish some major improvements! That's always a blessing when you're able to provide your family’s needs. I love how everything is so organized and in one place so that it's not so cluttered. This could be a fire hazard if it was!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! That new heating system does look a little exciting; it's a little beyond me as to what goes where! It does look a lot more efficient than the old setup. I'm sure it'll get a good workout in the coming winter. Just make sure to keep it maintained so that it will last long. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteIt's always a good thing when the house is warm, especially during the winter. I’m glad that you have all of your issues solved and that your home can be warm to enjoy with your family. Since all of the items are in their own space, the room with the heater looks a bit more open.
