A New Exterior Door and Some Updates

Our side porch had one last item to resolve - a new exterior door. The existing french door is a repurposed interior door in a style that would not have been found on a primary entrance to the home (and is also quite drafty).

Nate and Darryn dropped off our new solid wood-paneled door for Mike to prime and paint before installation.

It's a beautiful door whose detail matches the Federal panel detail of our new front entry door (which I have yet to post on as we are waiting on a few last details).

As far as the renovation goes as a whole, we have had to be quite patient as we wait for final installation of a few key elements, particularly heat upgrades.

Thankfully, after several months without any heat (and Mike having to actually supplement with plug-in heaters to do some painting), the main house finally has heat again. Unfortunately, the entire back el (from the kitchen back to the mudroom) is still without.

Obviously, having heat, especially during the mid-winter months is integral to finishing steps like painting, floor finishing, and turning the water on.

  2. baby steps! Hopefully you aren't getting the winter of last year. We just got slammed by a blizzard down here in Virginia, we are not equipped to handle it like New Englanders. Have to conserve that valuable heat! Nice door.

  5. Love the plain door and it is all going to look so fantastic when it is finished. Having renovated our own farmhouse here in France, I recently met a man who is renovating a 12th Century Chateau, it was so fascinating I am featuring him and his chateau on the blog tomorrow! I think we can all learn so much by sharing our renovating tips, thank you for sharing all of yours.

  6. Who've the door. We used small heaters in our drafty kitchen and one in the mudroom during these freezing days in cold central PA. We don't want any frozen pipes plus we do have to eat! On the list is an new storm door. I don't know if we will ever be able to replace windows as they have to be custom made; super expensive. Our house is 200 years plus. A dream and a challenge!
