The West End...

... of our house.

This is what it looked like when we bought it, before the wraparound porch, the dormer, the new windows and doors, and a fresh coat of paint.

Here's hubby shortly after those renovations were complete. If you look closely, you can see the pressure treated posts supporting the porch. They're most visible on the west side of the porch due to the grade of our property.

We finally had all of the posts faced with fieldstone. We actually used paver materials for this as they were quite a bit less expensive, yet we felt they provided the aesthetic we were looking for.

It is a small detail but to us, it made a big difference as we've strived for our renovations to look period appropriate. The pressure treated posts stuck out like a sore thumb.

Happy June!

  6. Everything you add enhances your home and the love for creating a special spot. I could picture masses of hydrangea bushes there or something happy to bloom there.

  7. wow - such a gorgeous looking home, and I agree with the idea of the pavers on the stumps, it's like the organic jewellery, just perfect!

  8. Gorgeous.

Isn't white paint the loveliest? So farmhouse chic. We just repainted our Greek revival farmhouse with a fresh coat of white...so clean and simple!

  11. I just discovered your blog via "Flea Market Style" Magazine. I find your posts so inspiring, as My husband and I are also renovating (slowly) our 1920s farmhouse in rural Virginia. Sometimes when the projects get daunting, I need a little inspiring pick-me-up! Thank you.

  12. Nothing like a porch on a house to complete it's lived in look. I couldn't imagine not having a porch. We use ours on a daily basis.

  15. I love the new colors and the changes look so sweet,
We would not be able to leave the bottom of our house exposed here in Ohio. We would have ground hogs and other critters that would try to make a home under there!!! But it looks great. Dianntha

  21. I realize this is somewhat inappropriate, but will say it any way in spirit of "recognizing all things beautiful is good."

    Your husband is terribly handsome:).

  24. Your house is absolutely gorgeous inside and out! What an inspiration! I just have one question.... Are the white porch floors hard to keep clean? I love the look, just don't know how I could keep the dirt off after a rain or snow.

  30. You just validated my decision to replace two of our (leaky) windows with historically correct Marvin wood (interior) double-hung windows. I could have replaced all 10 of our upper windows for the price, but hated the look of white vinyl in our 90 year old Dutch Colonial. Installation tomorrow!

  43. Lovely--so lovely. I live in Central Texas, so verdant green, hydrangeas, and shade trees are hard to come by (at least in the part of Central Texas I'm from). Ah well. Grow where you are planted and all that. :o)

  59. We are painting our house soon and your house has inspired us greatly! I've been scanning your resource list :) So helpful, thank you! Would you mind sharing what sheen the exterior paint colors are including the door. Low lustre, semi-gloss, high gloss? We got all samples from your resource list and the green was eggshell and I'm thinking you used something different...? So happy I stumbled across your blog! My husband and I thank you!!!!

    1. Oh my, I can't remember! I know that we did whatever is custom, whatever the paint store recommended. I believe the door was semi-gloss. The exterior was gloss or eggshell but I can't remember! So sorry...I'd go with the sheen the paint store recommends. I'm positive that's what we did. Best, Catherine
