With each passing day, the yard grows more alive with the blossoms of the season. In addition to our lilacs which have come and gone, and the peonies which will join us soon, we are enjoying the blossoms of several viburnum shrubs that we planted this spring - these beautiful 'snowball' bushes are in full blossom.
Here is one of our first bouquets of them.
I love that they so closely resemble the hydrangea blossoms. We planted six this spring.
My next door neighbor has one next to her deck. When I walk along side the fence bordering our backyards, I can smell the blossoms. It is heavenly! I will be going to our local nursery tomorrow to pick up a few more annuals. I'll be looking for one (or seven) of these shrubs as well. Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteoh I love snowball bushes! It is my dream to live in a cool enough climate to have a crushed gravel meandering path through the garden swamped by snowball bushes either side. Heaven!

Viburnum oppulus 'Roseum' is my ALL time favorite one. And yes, you are right about them looking very similar to the Hydrandgea arborescens 'Annabelle'. Also one of my favorites! Beautiful pictures and love your blog :)

Our snowball bushes are done blooming, so it's wonderful to pop by here and see the lilacs and the other flowers one more time! I'll bet you guys are loving being able to be outside with your two little ones!

i really miss the snowballs, hydrangeas and lilacs, peonies, quince and redbuds that we grew back in the midwest....here in the arid and hot southwest, we can do no such thing.....thank you so much for sharing your beauties with us......

Oh, I love the snowball bush. My parents use to have one. It was one of my favorite's right along with the lilac bushes growing up. I love the bouquet you made out of the snowballs. My mom never done that, but I wish she would have. You're so lucky to be able to have some of my favorites, that here in the Houston, Tx area we can't have. These bushes require some really cold temps. and we just don't have that. I have all the tropicals and palms which I love also. Thanks for sharing the picture's. I loved looking at them.

ReplyDeleteHmmm... I planted a Chinese snowball in early fall this year and no blossoms yet! Wonder if it takes them a few years to get going.
