  2. They are magnificent! {I assume that you grew these?} Last summer, I let a couple of mine stay on in the veggie garden so that they could flower. OMG! The flowers are GLORIOUS, to say the very least. Huge globes of purple brilliance.

  3. Mother Nature is marvellous - really. They are such a work of art in themselves. I wish I could buy artichokes that look that good - someone should design a fabric around that pattern. Best way to serve them too. Mmmm..

  4. We had a friend who was invited to dinner at the parents' house of a girl he was seeing. It was a tradition in their household to eat artichokes for birthday dinners. Problem was, our friend had never eaten an artichoke. So, when his date told him to just eat the "meat," he pulled off the leaf and threw the entire thing in his mouth ... to the amusement of everyone else at the table. I will never be able to look at artichokes without thinking of that story!

  6. MY FAVORITE VEGGIE....ever!!! We used to have them all the time for our birthday dinners.....then we came to expect them in the toe of our Christmas stocking (remember, they are out of season at that time and hard to come by...or should I just say expensive.)

Now on WW...I don't use butter, but I eat them plain and really am enjoying the full taste. I am salivating as I type this.

    O HAPPY DAY!!!

Love your posts. Let us see updates of the beautiful babies every once in a while. A true treat for us.

  8. Hi there, I love artichokes-yum!!! We have always cooked them in the pressure cooker for 20 mins. and we serve our with mayo. Love hearing how others cook and eat theirs. One question-actually it is a family arguement that has gone on for 33 yrs....do you put the leaf in your mouth up or faced down? Just curious...
    Enjoy!

  12. These are store bought! I did buy some seeds for our garden this spring but I'm not so sure that they'll grow here. I'm willing to try though as they are a favorite!
And I eat the leaves UP! And only the last half of it...and then of course, the heart. Yum.

  22. Got this recipe from an Italian friend. I didn't have fresh arties so used canned and it was still fab!
400g cooked artichokes chopped, 1/2 C mayo, 1/2 C parmesan (grated), 4 T philly cheese , lemon juice, 1t minced garlic, 1/2 t cayenne. Combine, place into small oven dish, sprinkle more parmesan over top then cook in 200/390 oven 40 min. GREAT hot dip!
