Fresh cut roses are among my favorite summer things. I look forward to making bouquets for the house with great anticipation. They make the house feel as if summer has walked in.
My mom has a small rose garden from which she makes the most beautiful bouquets. You couldn't find anything more lovely in even the most exquisite flower shop. My memories of growing up with those bouquets are what inspired me to grow roses of my own.
So far I've planted the varieties Geoff Hamilton, Windemere, Glamis Castle and Heritage by David Austin. All are soft shades of pink and white.

This looks so pretty. I used to have the most beautiful rose garden, but it got too much of a job and I got rid of them. But I miss the cut flowers in the house. I have never understood people that don't cut their flowers... that is why I grow them...

ReplyDeleteThe counter tops are butcher block from IKEA. There were extremely affordable - only $80 per slab. We only needed three slabs so it was a huge bargain for something we thought would offer a lot of charm to the space.
We used a product called Safecoat to stain the counters. We chose 'cedar' for the color and finished it with a top coat from the same company.

Your roses are beautiful. I've been pretty successful at growing most things, but not roses. The only rose I have that is doing well is a shrub rose. Your roses are an inspiration and I will have to keep trying.
ReplyDeletethe roses are beautiful, so is your kitchen ! my husband and I are redoing our kitchen now, we are putting a bank of windows above the sink, he wants to go without upper cabinets, do you have a dish closet or a pantry where you put most of your food, dishes, etc. and do you miss not having any cabinets above ? ReplyDeleteAll of our everyday dishes are on the shelves. The lower cabinets hold everything else. As far as food goes, we have a small pantry to the left of the kitchen sink. It was an old pie safe that we converted.
Our kitchen is small so we keep it simple!

Lovely! I wish we had a little more sun. I would love to grow roses, but our small yard is under a canopy of old, big trees. Beautiful in it's own right. I still have sweet memories of my Mum making me Lilly of the Valley, Lavender and Rose bouquets. She had a special vase just for my room.

Hello Trina, Your roses are beautiful. David Austin has some of the most beautiful roses in the business. When we lived in the city I had 7 different kinds of his roses 3 were climbers on the front porch and arbor and running along the picket fence. Unfortunately there were no gardens here at the farm cottage where we moved to last year. This fall we are planning to build a screened porch and gardens surrounded by a picket fence. It will be good to smell roses again. Have a wonderful Monday...Maura :)

ReplyDeleteOh! I don't think I've ever mentioned that our open shelves in our farmhouse kitchen are held up by brackets identical to those in your kitchen. I copied from from a photo I found in a book.

Your roses are beautiful. I rescued a rose from a very shady area in a home we just moved into. It is now sunny and happy and I am eagerly anticipating the opening of the blossoms to see just what color they are!

ReplyDeleteMeasurements of our sink are 27 x 17 (inside). It's fireclay but I don't know about heavy use. We were told to use caution as it can crack. So perhaps something more hardy for your purposes would be better.
Otherwise, it's held up great!

ReplyDeleteThe carpenter that built our cabinets, built the brackets as well. But you can find them easily online and in speciality (old house) hardware stores.

ReplyDeleteThere is dust but not on any dishes that we use regularly. I dust the shelves and everything on it that doesn't get used often every month or so. Some seasons (summer) are dustier than others.
