Love Seat

I grew up with this love seat. It was in the entry of my Grandmother's home which was nestled in the hills of Studio City, California. Like all the antique pieces of hers I own, this piece of furniture has been in the family for several genarations, originally surviving my Great Great Grandparents westward migration from Chicago to Los Angeles in the early 1900's. These pieces were handed down from my Grandmothers Grandparents to her parents, and in turn from her parents to her.

My Grandmother upholstered the love seat in the red toile fabric. I hadn't realized this until we were closing up her house and found all the fabric scraps. She loved red toile...she loved her red transfer ware.

The dip you see in the right-half of the cushion is from me. I was a teenager and I decided to plop myself down on it one day but immediately sprang back up when I heard the sound of a spring pop. I had Hubby try to retie the springs last weekend so that's why we had it on the porch.

As you can see in the picture above, it's not looking very much like winter around here! We've had only rain these past few weeks...making it feel a lot more like spring. xo

  3. Your house is absolutely beautiful! I love your blog and I am so happy that I found it. The love seat is very unique. I can certainly appreciate antiques with heart ties. We are using a small chair that was my husband's grandmothers that she had upholstered in a yellow fabric that I would have chosen myself. We are also having his grandfather's desk restored. I think we will display it in our living room. Where do you plan to use the love seat?

  4. oooo I really love the toile! And that a lot of the furniture in your home is from your family. I used to walk around my grandparents house when I was young pointing to everything I wanted to take with me when I had a house of my own. :-)

  5. If you're trying to make me jealous ~ it's working! :) What a gorgeous bench. Don't you cherish it even more knowing it has such a special history within your family. I love that your grandmother was into transferware and toile! What I'm really jealous of is that stunning table - where do you have these items in your home?
Be thankful that you aren't buried in 5 ft of snow like so many of us are!

  8. Thank you for sharing so much of the rich history of your love seat with us. Isn't this weather the goofiest? The only places we have snow left are where it fell off of the roof or was plowed into piles.

  16. Hi Trina,
Always love calling in and seeing what's going on. Love the loveseat, especially the red toile. LOVE red! It just goes to show that the toile after these years has held its own and hasn't dated at all. Classic!! Where are you eventually going to put this stunning piece of furniture??? Anyway, better go.
    Take care.
