Master Bedroom

Like the other rooms in our rental house, our bedroom has been pulled together with love and desire for comfort and happiness. But also, with the need to use things we already had on hand. The only new items are the curtains (IKEA) and their hardware (from our local curtain shop). I also picked up the wicker basket for holding firewood on the hearth.

With many of our belongings still in boxes (beloved picture frames, dish ware, artwork, etc.), we are living very comfortably but sparsely. I have always gravitated toward minimalist design so it doesn't bother me. But there's always that vase you need, or picture frame you miss seeing...

I took these images in the early morning so the room is quite dark.

The wrinkled duvet cover and bed linens are fresh from the wash but not from the ironing board - no time for that I'm afraid. If I waited to take pictures until I pressed the bed linens, I would never post on it!

Here are a few more photos just before bedtime. I decided to use the IKEA bed from our old guest house because it's so comfortable. I love the padded headboard and the ease with which you can nestle in with a good book.

A Quiet Living Room

For the most part, we've kept the living room the same since we first moved in, minus the addition of the chair that was relocated from the office. It is a room that we seldom find ourselves in unfortunately, due to its location at the far side of the house from the playroom.

It is a room that lends itself to a quiet moment now and then - a moment to just be still and listen to rush of the river, the creaks of the house, the chatter of voices coming from elsewhere in the home.

It is one of my favorite rooms in the house.

Portrait

I've always wanted to have a professionally-photographed portrait of myself. I'd want it to be a photograph that captures all that I am, all that I have been and all that I desire to be in this world, a photograph that embodies so much of me that when my closest friends and family saw it, they'd say, "Yes, that's her. That's Catherine."

There are photographs of people and then there are portraits of people. The art of capturing the essence and light of a person requires a special gift, and that gift is bequeathed to few.

I have had the honor and privilege to meet one of these artists, photographer Patrisha McLean. She sees the subtle beauties of expression within the faces of her subjects, and is able to capture them exquisitely. Her work is simply stunning.

Patrisha is one of an illustrious group of portrait photographers who are participating in
a portrait session auction benefiting the Maine Media Workshops. Bids are accepted at the event and online, which is why I am mentioning it here on my blog.

I love you, I love you not, I love you...

The first of our local organic strawberries are in and it's absolutely delightful.

My excitement just soars when I think of sharing these simple pleasures with our dumplings.

Our local organic strawberry farm just sent out an announcement of their 'U-Pick' hours...7am until 7:30pm. I can't wait to bring them, it will be their first time picking strawberries.

To entice my little boy to the wonders of what's ahead, I gave him a bowl of strawberries we recently brought home from our Co-Op.

He took my breath away when he started pulling each leaf off the strawberry stem.

I love you...
I love you not...
I love you...

After going all the way around...

I love you.

Pure sweetness.
xoxo
