Peonies

We went out this morning and clipped a bouquet of peonies.

Somewhere, I must have written down the variety... but can't remember where.

The babies are present with every photograph I take now. Sometimes just ever so slightly out of frame...

...so slightly that a stray foot may appear as I lean in between them to take the picture.

We walked around the yard before we clipped our bouquet and enjoyed the warm summer morning.

This peony has been blooming for several days. It's always bittersweet to take the blossoms from the garden to enjoy indoors.

As you can see, the peony is the only thing blooming in the front bed right now.

Here are my helpers. In the background, another peony (a bright fuscia) is in bloom.

Happy summer solstice friends!

Ah, beautiful peonies. Where I live (Perth, Western Australia)it is too hot to grow peonies. We used to grow them when we lived in Canberra as it was cool enough there. Enjoy the warm weather - we've just had the winter solstice!

Those peonies are just beautiful! I would feel like a super hero if I were ever able to go and snip off beautiful blooms like those and say I grew them myself. I'm very envious :) Your little helpers are as gorgeous as ever also.

I am back in UK after 4 years in France. I loved my french house but am now falling in love with the american colonial style. Your house is lovely and you obviously enjoy it - and the babies - very much. I look forward to following you.

I have that same white with a touch of pink color peony that just finished blooming in my garden. Since I got them as a transplant from my MIL, I'm not sure what the variety is either! xoxo

Oh my goodness, the babies are so sweet. I love the little foot in your picture and can imagine how busy your days are. Your yard is amazingly beautiful. We have had hot temps and little rain this spring so nothing is lush. :(

Stunning!! My husband and I have an old house in the middle of the town where we live. We love living so central, but one day we dream of living in the country in a beautiful, old house with a wrap-around porch. And I just added peonies to that dream!

Haven't the peonies been gorgeous this year. While our cold weather has been trying, it's sure been giving us a lovely long season for our flowers. Love the little splashes of deep pink in this variety. You and your helpers must have had so much fun gathering them up!

Your family, home, garden, and countenance are lovely. I visit often and, shamefully, seldom comment. I am so sorry for that, Trina. Truly, A Country Farmhouse always makes me happy.

I have never seen a peony before, or may be I've seen them and don't know what kind of flower that is. I just made some soaps yesterday with the scent of peony and smells fabulous, I'm going to see if they grow in my area so I can plant some. Your peonies are beautiful and so is your yard, and what can I say about those babies, adorable!
Have a great day!

Hi,

The peonies are festiva maxima; they're double blossom and wonderfully fragrant. I have them in my garden and in a mixed border at the historic church I attend.

There are few things better than the scent of peonies. It a heaven-sent scent.

Your gardens are coming along beautifully! You've done a lot of work since I last saw them. I hope we'll get to see them in another few weeks when everything is in bloom

You have the perfect little helpers there Trina...in the garden AND for taking photos!!
I think you need to plant a few more peony bushes so that the harvesting of the ones you have won't be so sad...just think how wonderful it would be to have several of the same kind. We only have one now as well and I hope to have more in the future...ants and all!
