I had been buying your everyday synthetic nylon sponge for years and hadn't given it a second thought until I realized that a yellow dye filled my kitchen sink every time I used it. Seeing that dye made me wonder if there was a cleaner alternative.
There was! The above product Twist is a natural unbleached loofah sponge, free from dyes and chemicals - and it's completely biodegradable! Surprisingly, they also hold up much better than the petroleum based sponges. In fact, not one of mine has fallen apart despite frequent runs through the dishwasher.
An added bonus is that they're also a lot more attractive to look at!

I'm a sponge girl myself (dispite all the negative press) so, these are a great alternative! I'll have to check them out. Did you find them locally or on-line? I also sometimes use natural 'pop-up' sponges that are from Trader Joes. Love TJ's!
Wishing you and your husband, and Lucy! a wonderful 4th of July weekend!

Hi there, love this product as well. I have enjoyed reading your blog so much, especially as you are in such a beautiful part of the country - we also live in the country, albeit on the East Coast side of things...we are fortunate to be able to live in such lovely surroundings... I know without question that it makes a difference not only to my heart and my health but also to my soul. Best to you-

Hi Joan, I found them in the health food section of our local grocery store but according to their web site, it sounds as if they're selling them just about everywhere. I love Trader Joes too although unfortunately, the closest one to us is an hour away! I'll be sure to look for the pop-up sponges next time I go : ) Happy fourth of July to you too!
Hi Farmgirl, Thanks for writing : ) I lived in rural Maine for eleven years! Love East Coast country living - miss it often. Oh, the loons...I so miss the sound of the loons. Please say hello to them for me ; )
